If There’s Lead In Regular Lipstick, How Much Lead Is There In Chola Lipstick?

The FDA is looking into claims from an advocacy group that says it found dangerous amounts of lead in various lipsticks they tested:

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said that a third of the 33 red lipsticks examined by an independent lab contained a level of lead exceeding 0.1 parts per million — which is the FDA’s limit for lead in candy. The FDA does not set a limit for lead in lipstick.

Typical. Take care of the kids, but eff the women. [Ed. Note: Yes, this is Cindy. And yes, I’ve got a big, honking chip on my shoulder.] Cholitas, you might want to lay off the dark stuff for a while.

Just wait until they test for lead levels in the eyeliner…

I think there may be a new opportunity for some business-minded hainas looking to invest in manufacturing “toxin-free cosmetics”:http://ezinearticles.com/?Certified-Organic-Cosmetics—The-Healthy-Option&id=344306 offering the deep blacks and bloody reds every ruka needs to keep the homies eyes on you.

Once when I was 12 years old, I wanted to be like all the Latina thuggies in my neighborhood. I got GIANT hoop earring, used extra-hold hairspray to make sure my bubble bangs were extra crisp and of course the dark chocolate liner for the rim of my lips. And then my mom saw me. She yanked those hoops so fast and hard, I thought she ripped my ear off too! Then all those Latina thuggies started calling me la gringa and were really mean. Hey at least this ‘gringa’ got a college education. Thanks mom!

This is the best commentary I’ve seen on this story today. Can you find a Latin@ bent to the Gore Nobel peace prize? Apparently he has beef with Uribe…

i too thank the parentals from prohibiting me from becoming a chola and wearing make up and using hairspray growing up. i sure did try though! THANK THE LORD THEY SAID NO. Not only because i got a college education, but it saved me from fashion embarassment. If only they had done the same w/ my bright neon colored outfits and layred tube socks.

First, kids dying from lead in toys. Now, they find high levels of lead in lipsticks. What’s next - lead in food? Are women going to start dying now too from using lipstick too much?

    Freaky!

There’s a detailed report about it at:
