A recent survey conducted by the non-profit organization Mental Health America found a wide, gaping chasm between what Latino American parents hope for their kids in terms of sexual education and what they are actually doing to make this come true. Specifically, Mami and Papi think they know best when it comes to talking about your, um, Mami or Papi, even if they’re fairly clueless about issues facing teens today - especially gay teens.

More than two-thirds of Latino parents have not addressed sexual orientation with their children, though 95 percent, agreed that the information should come from a parent [...]

So, basically, parents want their kids to learn about sex and homosexuality from them, but don’t think that means, you know, actually sitting down and talking about them. Uncouth! Thank goodness, then, that we have sex-positive role models like Ninel and MC EDU K around to lead today’s youth.
