Oh Shit. Here We Go: Veteran Cuts Down Mexican Flag In Reno

Some hairy veteran cut down a Mexican flag flying above a U.S. flag outside a Reno, Nevada store because, you know, that’s the most pressing issue this country is facing right now.

First, the people at El Jaripeo shouldn’t have done this…and perhaps they didn’t know the custom of flying flags.

But the veteran should not have taken the flag down in such a violent way, and to disrespect the flag from another country (the old adage - two wrongs don’t make a right). I’m wondering if anyone asked El Jaripeo to take down the flags in the first place.

And I agree - the most pressing issue in our country is how to fly flags. Whatever.

Didn’t Senor Veterano realize that ‘his country’s flag’ was likely to be made in China anyways??? Oh, and that he likely didn’t have any authority to take the law into his own hands, in spite of his honorable service in defense of a society of laws?

Man, it’s like growing up in the San Fernando Valley all over again.

I think Mack Wack is the only one who has any sense among you. To a Soldier, you bet your ass one of the most important issues is how you display our national colors. We die for it! As for the war, it seems typical for people who are clueless about it to play armchair quarterbacks and spout off their solutions without knowing what in the hell they are talking about. You watch the news and think you know what is going on over there yet you like sheep being led to the slaughter with your politics. You do not think for yourself and it disgraces those who gave their lives so you could vote freely and with assurance you have weighed all the options of the candidates instead of listening to the news and whatever loudmouth is spouting off at a given time. However, my brothers and I will continue to leave our families, and give our lives if necessary, to ensure you are able to think the way you choose regardless of how it affects us because that is what we do!

How did Vietnam allow me to vote freely? How is Iraq allowing me to vote freely? In fact, I still can’t vote without the fear of my government miscounting my vote. SF SGT, do you really think any of the wars that have been fought are even about patriotism?! Patriotism is merely the shroud that is placed to disguise the main reasons for war.

We have seen and are seeing the real enemies and it is not the poor Mexicans that try to scrounge up a living but the giant corporations and the not so giant that have finished off all prospect of the greatness of America, a strong and large (in big numbers) middle class … which is being killed off.

The real villains are not the Iraqis that did not attack us or the Mexicans and illegals but the big boys.

I think many of you are missing several points.

Posse commitatus prohibits the standing military from enforcing the law inside U.S. territory, it has NOTHING to do with a private citizen whether they are a former soldier or not.

I cannot claim that everything that this man did was legal, but our society has a long standing tradition of civil disobedience in protest of acts that are wrong. The civil rights movement in the 1960’s was filled with people being arrested for purposely breaking segregation laws in protest, yet they were not wrong.

What you have to separate here is the difference between what is legal and what is right. The flying of the Mexican flag above the American flag is not only illegal, it is an insult to every man woman and child that loves this country. I would simply say that if the owner of the bar loves Mexico more than he loves the United States, he is living in the wrong country. He should go to the place he loves so much.

Here is America we have a long tradition of accepting immigrants. We have even been told recently that we need to accept those that did not come here legally and many of us do. But there is one thing that all Americans absolutely must insist upon as a requirement for being an immigrant. We must insist that people who come here to benefit from our country adopt it as their own and love it as their own. Their loyalty cannot be divided.

The Mexican people come to America to benefit from our system and get a piece of the “American Dream.” Yet we find that many still keep their allegiance to Mexico, and that is wrong. Mexico is poor because of their system. We have no desire to import that corruption and poverty here to the United States. If you are going to benefit from our system and take from it, then honor what gives you that opportunity and love the United States for it. Not the country that kept you down.

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!

We are overrun here with Mexican illegals. I see Mexican flags everywhere, and it bothers me. If Mexico is so great, why not go back to that wonderful land, and take their flags with them.

My ancestors first came here (well, some were already here…) in 1634. WE became Americans. The Mexicans who come here, want to remain Mexicans, resisting the language and customs of the United States.

I think the reason the socialists here are so upset is that for once a “crazy, raging, bearded hippie” isn’t one of their own left wing kooks. And don’t worry, President Hillary will still listen to the pointed headed elitists even if you bath weekly, or if we are hopeful, daily for that matter.

I will say I am confused however. Why are all of these immigrants so recalcitrant about learning the language and customs of this country? My great grandparents had to ditch their native Scandinavian and Italian language when they came here for English. Why are we now compromising on that tradition? If they want to retain their customs, language and lifestyle, do so, but do it back home. Someone in the government needs to sack up before all of our cities look like Reynosa and the like. I am tired of hearing about illegals that commit murders and only get deported since they are here illegally. For better or worse, if you come here, assimilate, or don’t come at all.

I will make it a point not to ever hire you for counsel then Deangleo. If you are truly a lawyer then God help your clients. Public Law 94-344, known as the Federal Flag Code, is the law of the land regarding the handling and displaying of the American flag. Section 3, subparagraph C states that “No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy.” Maybe you should go back to law school my friend! As for el chido, are you suggesting that the wars our forefathers fought were of no consequence? Have all the American’s who have given their all in war only died in vane? Crawl out from beneath the blanket you are hiding yourself from reality in. We take action because inaction gets you nothing but pain and regret. If our government is just so corrupt and horrible why aren’t all of you flooding to other countries? I know exactly why because I have visited more than a few of them including Mexico for varying amounts of time. I also know that they all have government corruption that makes even Hillary Clinton look like a saint. The bottom line is that the Flag, although astonishing to you obviously superior intellects, means a great deal to those who have served under it and we hold it as one of the most precious things in the world. Most of you are clueless about that and see it as a piece of cloth. How sad that makes me for you to be so blind and unappreciative. SF SGT - I am also in the military, and I see the war as pointless. One of the reasons I enlisted, was to be able to say that and not have somebody tell me that I was an “armchair quarterback.”

Deangelo - What he stated about the flags is true. In the U.S., no other flag should “officially” be flying above the national ensign. That being said, I really don’t see anybody that flies the U.S. flag doing it properly either. I don’t see people executing morning or evening colors like they should, and I don’t see wannabe vigilantes getting on their ass about it.

So a quick question, should we tell all those people that celebrate St. Patrick’s Day proudly and love their Irish ancestry wearing green and getting drunk, to go back to Ireland?

One more thing, Juano Chicato… prove this “Where else but in America can a 62 year old mexican who has never worked a day in his life in America, never paid any taxes, sit on his duff and draw more social security benefits than an American who has worked and paid taxes to this country for 40 years.”

Most of the time, when people work illegally and with fake documents, they receive their pay minus the taxes and at the end of the year they are unable to claim because they do not have a real SSN.

I take leave for awhile and come home to read this.

Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi is supporting Stephen Ayers, the Architect of the Capitol, who took it upon himself to ban the use of the word “God” a certificate issued for an Eagle Scout. Ayers, who serves in a low-level, non-elected position, claims he has the authority to ban the word “God” from the certificate. This is the first time ever for the Architect of the Capitol to ban religious references. Ayers said he banned the word “God” because someone might be offended.

Does flying any flag above the one I fight for offend me - it would never have time to - upon site the target would be eliminated. The target of course being any flag but my RED WHITE & BLUE.
I both admire what my fellow Vet did and I am disappointed. From my stand point, he didn’t go far enough. With 2 phone calls, he could have enough Vets and those of us still fighting on location ASAP. We could have stood silently in the streets and sidewalks and camped out. Bringing thousands of Men and Women who truly represent what our country is all about.

As for Americans of Hispanic decent - I have served with some of the finish Hispanic Americans - I know of a boat unit (***4) that has some of the most courageous members to ever where the Triton Gold. Some of them speak 3 - 5 different languages - Fluently. They cover a tough territory and should have everyone’s respect.

However, it doesn’t sound as if they would. I really hate to see what would happen to the fat American smart Ass who would sound off because they were Hispanic and thought to be identified with the likes of this BAR OWNER.

It’s people like this BAR OWNER who are going to cause problems for other TRUE HEARTED AMERICAN’s who happen to be of Hispanic Orgin and have those physical features.

If you are of Hispanic Orgin and live in this country - But you find yourself laughing at this Vet because of what he did. Or, believe it to be too extreme or that he went too far - Then you are one of the many people who are in this country, but not of this country. This is the U.S., so the American flag should have been on top. In Mexico, the Mexican flag should be highest, in Norway the Norwegian flag should be highest, etc. That’s just common sense. The bar owner messed up and should have been called out for it.

HOWEVER, two wrongs don’t make a right, and this crazy-ass veterano tearing down the Mexican flag and desecrating it with a “knife of the US Army” is just petty destruction of property, tinged with racism. Let’s face the fact, in these nativist, anti-immigrant times the fact it was a Mexican flag that probably pushed him over the edge. If it was an English pub and the Union Jack was flying over the Stars and Stripes, he probably wouldn’t have made such a hissy fit.

And CPO AJ7, gimme a break. Apparently being a veteran gives you the right to be a self-righteous dick to everyone else. Because I rightly criticize this idiot for what he did does not make me any less of an American. Every American contributes in his own way for his country, and that’s why this country is so great in so many different ways. Sorry, but dying in Iraq or Vietnam was not dying for my freedom, but for our corporate elite’s economic interests.

It’s amazing how veterans always cry about defending our freedoms, but yet are some of the most intolerant and close-minded people out there.

Sorry I haven’t been in the net for a while. My wife has been in the hospital for the past week and I wanted to stay with her. I see Deangleo is at it again. If that is your professionalism in the court room than once again I am thankful not to have you as counsel. Actually the Nevada state flag law makes it a misdemeanor to disgrace Old Glory and it leaves that open to a wide variety of things. The state flag laws are encouraged to supplement the Law of the Land and I would think that placing flags above her in her own land would fit the bill. By the way Deangleo, I have never been in the Navy. SF stands for Special Forces and SGT stands for Sergeant of which I am a Sergeant First Class. In other words, I am a senior ranking leader in a Special Forces unit. Furthermore, I don’t recall saying anything racist unless you just consider supporting the American Flag over all others racist. I simply posed questions requesting that you explain your positions in previous postings. However, you chose to make unwarranted attacks because you have nothing to back-up your pitiful views. Moreover, you call people like me, and the veteran that took action, Taliban. Exactly how many Taliban have you met? How many have you talked to? Have you even performed even the slightest amount of research on the Taliban before you started making unfounded statements about people you don’t even know? I would guess no to all of these questions. I have personally questioned several Taliban and I have done in-depth research on the group starting from their birth. I can tell you that had this Veteran been Taliban he wouldn’t have stopped with taking down the flag. He would have proceeded to put a bullet in the first guys forehead and then tie the other one up in the middle of the street and perform a public castration taking off his testicles and penis in one fail swoop. Then while the poor soul was still alive (barely) he would have hung him and left him for everyone to see. Maybe I didn’t see the whole thing but I am pretty sure none of that happened. That leads me to believe that you are nothing more that an ignorant, angry bigot! That is right my friend, if you want to see a racist take a good look in the mirror! Oh, and one other thing, I could care less about comments about my 76 year-old mother because I left that type of vulgar, adolesent behavior behind in grade school. However, I can see that the so-called legal school you attended must have that as part of their cirriculum. Judging from your maturity level, my guess is that you are probably not a lawyer. You are probably a disgrutled college student who got stuffed in his locker all through high school and you are probably trying to work yourself through lawschool hoping to become a lawyer and show those mean jocks who teased you a thing or two. You probably associate Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines in the same catagory as those guys who picked on you. I am always saddened by posts like those of Deangleo. They contribute nothing to the discussion. They neither educate or inform anybody. Deangleo is a forum troll, and not even a very creative one at that. That places him on the evolutionary ladder just below slugs.

Deangleo is certainly no lawyer. What he has done here is commonly called professional misconduct. A real lawyer is trained to never fall to that level. Behavior like his would result in being disbarred. After spending many thousands of dollars to become a lawyer a real one would never risk that investment so stupidly. What is more, they would never tarnish their reputation by acting like that in any public forum. For a lawyer, your reputation is all you have to recommend you. So I am guessing that Deangleo is a politician because of his ability to lie and his seeming close experience with deviant sexual activities.

For the rest of the folks here just remember that being an American is not about race or culture. Almost all of us had our ancestors come here from someplace else. A lot of Mexicans did too. American cities often have Italian-American clubs, Polish-American clubs, etc. Ethnic cultural areas and restaurants are often the cornerstones of the entertainment and flavor in our cities. Chinatown is famous in many cities and the Mexican areas are just as well loved.

To be an American you are not asked to give up your culture. You are asked to give America your love and your allegiance. You can still embrace your culture as many of us do. But if America entered a justified war with Mexico you would be expected to support America. You can certainly voice your concerns as is your right, but you are an American then, not a Mexican.

You are asked to learn English because that is the language of business and education in America. In fact, English is the most commonly spoken laguage in the world. It is the language of international business and the language that all international airline traffic must use to communicate with flight control.

Countries such as Canada that try to embrace more than one language struggle with it heavily and it serves to be the focal point of how we are different and breeds mistrust rather than being productive and beneficial. The attempts to take Quebec out of Canada underscore this heavily. Multiple official languages serve to separate people, not bring them together.

Our problem is even worse in America. While Canada is mainly French and English speaking, the United States has many significant ethnic populations that speak many languages. It would be impossible to communicate effectively if we were to embrace them all. So it is better to have just one language, and that is the one that has always been the language of this country.

This is not disrespect on my part. I do not care what language you use at home and it is none of my business. That is your choice. I am concerned with how our country works and avoiding problems rather than making more.
