U.S. Border Patrol officials finally released plans recently for the 700-mile stretch of “fence” the government hopes to build along the Texas-Mexico border. Though the majority of Texans have expressed their vehement opposition to the plan, citing reasons like economics, environmentalism and, you know, not wanting to be xenophobic assholes, the government seems to be happily plowing on in a federal version of sticking their fingers in their ears and saying la, la, la. Highlights from the official document include the following specs:
[It’s] particularly disturbing, as it includes mileage beyond the 700+ mandated by the Secure Fence Act running up the coast from Boca Chica. I would urge everyone to submit a comment at the bottom of the page, then call Senators Cornyn and Hutchison and demand that they stop this monstrosity in its tracks. The Border Patrol and Department of Homeland Security have said on a number of occasions that the wall will only slow a crosser down by a few minutes, despite a price tag of over $46 billion. Though it won’t stop human border crossers, it will do tremendous damage to our communities and environment.
And, “If approved, construction of the new Tactical Infrastructure would begin in Spring 2008 and continue through December 31, 2008.” (Merry Christmas and Happy New World Order, everybody.) But blogger Off The Kuff brings up a good point:
The government plans to erect much of the fence along river levees maintained by the International Boundary and Water Commission, which has determined much of the levee system has eroded and needs to be repaired.
So, eventually, in addition to not stopping any illegals, it will also be costing us money to fix. Sounds about right. Check out the plans in detail here and leave a comment for Big Brother, if you dare.

All this talk about fixing the levees at the end of the post just sounds like La Migra is just asking for nightmares to repeat themselves.
When will civil service leaders ever learn?

We are fighting the wall in every way that we can, and we invite everyone to join us. Go to www.notexasborderwall.com or our blog www.notexasborderwall.blogspot.com . The biggest problem that we face is the fact that the Secure Fence Act is federal legislation, passed by congress and signed by Bush. On top of that is the Real ID Act, that gives Chertoff the unilateral power to waive any law that he sees fit to build the wall. He has already done that in parts of California and Arizona. All this to destroy communities and refuges to build a $46 billion wall that the Border Patrol says will only slow a crosser down by 5 minutes. It is vitally important that everyone who cares about this issue contact their Senators and members of congress and urge them to repeal the Secure Fence Act and Real ID Act immediately.

I personally don’t understand something about all the anti-wall rhetoric going around.
Can someone explain to me why Mexico has the right to shoot illegal Guatemalen immigrants that cross the Southern Mexican border, but then offer aid to its own people illegally immigrating to the United States?
Mexico should stop shooting illegal immigrants entering its own country before critizing the United States for trying to control its borders.
And for all you fucking guys that are going to be all upset about this posting, just know that I actually have a Mexican passport and most of you losers probably don’t. So take caution in your town before responding to my comment.

Calmate, Deangelo!
Um…that would be Guatemalan immigrants, D. Spelling always kounts, you know.
So, D. I agree with you on how shitty the Mexican government handles Central American migrants, but I think that brining your queja up to the to the Comision Nacional Derechos Humanos, or , el Institutio Nacional de Migracion, Secretatia de Gobernacion is a fantastic compliment to raising awareness out here, since, I mean, you have Mexican citizenship and all.

Redaction to my previous post, seeing how I was being very necio about spelling: that would be Secretaria de Gobernacion.
If I wanted to get really persnickety, I’d make sure to have accents on all the proper words. But I’m giving myself a pass on this, chalking it up to technical shortcomings on getting accents to register on my computers over here.
