  • 60 Mexican firefighters crossed the U.S. border to help manage the ravaging fires in Southern California, but quickly steered back once they realized the fire was creeping on their side too. At least somebody’s going back to Mexico. [KESQ]
  • Police shot and killed an arsonist in San Bernardino this afternoon. Seems like half a state in flames is not enough to appease some people’s uncontrollable burning desires. [LAT]
  • California wildfires have burned 666 square miles. If you cannot see the religious connotations associated with that number we can’t help you, you are going to hell. [NYT]
  • President Bush expresses regret that he cannot control the winds that are causing the fires to expand. Dubya, one thing at a time. [LAT]
  • Fires disrupt life in Hollywood. Can’t they just get a bunch of heroes to help out? [AP]

I don’t know about Hollywood in general but I was in WestHo last night (to escape the SD fires) I saw no disruptions. Sushi eating, boozing, very short dresses and maserati’s peeling out on Sunset where just some of the fantastic things I saw. Viva Los Angeles!

Text message from my LA friend: Oh, the fires aren’t anywhere near me! But they burned down the restaurant I wanted to eat at this weekend. WORST. NEWS. EVER!!!”

She was totally not kidding either.
