Who knew such aspirations lay beneath the ever-churning keyboard of chica-lit star Alisa Valdés-Rodríguez, she of the Dirty Girls Social Club fame? (Sidebar: Seriously, with the hyphen and the accent marks? Too much work. Let’s call her A-VRod, no?) Seems A-Vrod is mulling over the idea of running for Congresswoman of her particular district in New Mexico. But she needs your dollars to make it happen. And if you’re not New Mexican, she says you should still care:
This is a national post, for someone from New Mexico. So, if you want to watch me kick much neo-con butt - then help a sistah out already. Please click on this link to make a donation (up to $2300, for you super-flossers) because as we all know, ya gots to pay to play. Any amount will help. (Okay, maybe not a penny.) But, you know. Even ten bucks. You know you lent your girlfriend that Dirty Girls book, and that you shoulda bought it anyway! Cough it up…and let’s see if there’s enough support for this 7th-generation New Mexican to make a go at it!
Seven generations? With New Mexico becoming a state in 1912, that’s one busily reproducing family. But who’s counting? Well A-Vrod for one:
So, if you guys give me [$5000], I’ll get an FEC number and move to ActBlue [the most popular donation site for democrats]. If not, then I’ll know I’m not in any shape to compete against anybody, and I’ll go back to writing books. (By the way, I have three in the pipeline and need an excuse to slow down. Give me one?)
So what do you say, America? Do you want the woman who refers to herself as Einstein’s Momma (says the tipster who sent us this story: “If you have time, read her previous posts where […] her three year old son beats up his teacher because she deserved it.”) to represent Latinos on Capitol Hill? Or would you rather she continue writing soon-to-be-major-motion-pictures for Latinos who don’t read? It’s like our own, personal Sophie’s choice.
Testing the Waters for Congress [The Latina (L)it Girl]

Oh God. There goes Aztlan.

I don’t want anyone who calls herself “sistah” to hold political office. That’s just me though.

I like her books but I didn’t realize she had political aspirations. Hmm, she doesn’t get along with J-Lo surely that should win some you guys points with her.

OK, I have to admit that I read her blog for awhile (and that’s actually how I found a link to Guanabee, because she had an entry about how this was her favorite new site). Anyway, I gave up reading it this summer around the time that she got into some kind of blog-fight with another writer about who was more Latina.
Now she wants to run for congress? Sounds like someone needs to up her lithium…

I think it is GREAT that Alisa is running for office. She is a dynamic, brilliant woman with great ideas. I am excited for her, New Mexico and congress.
