We ran into these folks outside the Venezuelan consulate in midtown Manhattan Sunday and couldn’t help but notice the articulate sign held by that nice woman in front which basically translates to, “Venenzuelans, quit being dumbasses and say no to Chavez.” Turns out her name is Maria Lizardo and she’s visiting from Caracas. Maria says she’s worried about her country and can’t get a job in Venezuela because of her politics which lean toward democracy and against Chavez becoming president for all time. Alejandro Carrillo behind her says he was an engineer in Caracas, but now he works in New York. “In America you can hate Bush and still get a job,” Carrillo said. “That’s all we’re asking for in Venezuela.” We’re pretty sure you can hate Bush and get a job in Venezuela. Oh, wait. That’s not what he meant.
