Cuban Dissident Dr. Oscar Biscet Accepts Medal Of Freedom, Your Friend Request

dr_oscar_elias_biscet11.05.07.jpg

Cuban dissident Oscar Biscet is one of eight individuals set to receive a Medal of Freedom today from President George Bush. Because Cuba’s version of a Presidential Medal of Freedom is an all-expenses paid stay in a luxury suite (in-room toilet, y’all!), Biscet’s daughter, Winnie, and his stepson, Yan Morejón, will receive the award on behalf of their dad. He has requested the medal remain in Miami until Cuba Libre becomes more than just a good way to get a hangover.

So why is Biscet receiving the award? Oh, just ‘cause he’s a total badass:

Between June 1998 and November 1999, he was arrested 26 times. On an anniversary of the 1996 downing of two Brothers to the Rescue aircraft by Cuban MiGs, he publicly displayed large photographs of the four Miami pilots killed in that incident.
In mid-1999, his group carried out a 40-day ”liquid-only” fast, in an apartment decorated with posters of leaders Biscet admired: Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi and the late Cuban exile leader Jorge Mas Canosa. He cast his struggle against communism — not just against Castro — in biblical terms. ”We fight against evil,” he said, “not the evil-doers.”

Also? Because he’s all up on ur MahSpace, civily disobayin ur rayjeems.

1) The Presidential Medal of Freedom? nigga, please.

2) By any sane definition, Jorge Mas Canosa is as much of a terrorist as Osama Bin Laden. It’s mind-boggling that anyone would associate him with Gandhi & MLK. What peace activist orders the bombing of civilian planes?

3) Hermanos al Rescate is about as thinly veiled a CIA front as one could imagine…Those pilots were certainly enemy combatants by Bush’s definition, flying marked US military planes, and basically got what they had coming for trespassing Cuban air space.

looks like SOMEONE’S friend request was denied

dutchtwista, you never fail to make me throw up in my mouth a little.

This is just pure pandering to the Miami right wing. Most likely just a ploy to remind Miami Cubans that they are required to vote Republican because Democrats would never honor these types of lunatics.

How do you invade a sovereign nation’s air space and not expect to get shot down? Only a Miami right wing nut could think that they have the right to do this.

Fight against communism. Puh-lease. How is that fight going against the Chinese communist regime?

@ Marcos: those facts are kinda disgusting, i know. get well soon!

Where do you draw the line between freedom fighting and terrorism really? Are the Free French terrorists? The ERP in Argentina? Oh, no? Cuz they were on the right team, right? Castro, sí, Nazis, no?

God, I hate people with real beliefs. All this crap is so subjective.
