Fresa Flashback: We Are The Latino World

We don’t know who or what the song “Cantare, Cantaras” benefited, but if it had anything to do with hair, those less-fortunates are, no doubt, sitting pretty today. Thanks to this Latin American, all-star “We Are The World” rip-off (which, in turn, was a rip-off of the British “Do They Know It’s Xmas Time.”) Take a moment to get yourself in the holiday spirit by gazing upon its Eightiness. You won’t believe your eyes—or your ears. It features everything from Vicente Fernandez’s mustache to a Jose Feliciano guitar solo and Maria Conchita Alonso in an Olivia Newton John headband? Okay! And keep an eye out for little Ricky Martin. Even back in his Menudo days, the cameraman knew who to keep that lens on, honey. Also, we just remembered we’ve been stalking Emmanuel since 1990 and we have some things to do. Kthnxby!

The engineers giving everyone the thumbs up is priceless. I could watch this all day. I discover a new layer of cheese upon each viewing.

I agree with El Joto on so many levels. Also, can we please discuss the clothing and the hair? Further, who’s the dude with the ‘stash on the first row wearing the kelly green Michael Jackson nagahide jacket?

Ricardo Montalban? Cheech? Pimpinela? El Puma? Priceless.

Emmanuel…sigh! So adorable.

Did someone not see Gloria Estefan there? Roberto Carlos! Jose Jose! Placido Domingo! El Puma! Chente! This video is amazing!!!!!!11

Who’s the sports commentarista with the awesome toupée? Please. Someone. Anyone?

1) I totally know that song.
2) I know 90% of the people in that room.

a special thank you to the parental units for exposing me to everything in the latino world so the aforementioned could be true.

they’ve done this type of group recording many times…that spanish compilation for the Olympics Voces Unidas? The National Anthem translated in Spanish? All filled with latino superstar goodness. or…awkwardness.

Backtrip!

Here’s a list with the names of most the performers.

Okay. i just spotted Pedrito Fernandez in a blue sweater. I am officially in love with this video.

How awesome! What a great idea for those awkward post-turkey moments! It will take everyone down memory lane for sure. I will keep playing it ad nauseam to remind us all expatriates of our cheesy boricua shows of the 80’s…

Thanks Emilio for the list.

And of course, like Bosrican, I sigh for Emmanuel…
