Cuban-born Nelly Quijano, who owns several McDonald’s franchises, has been named female entrepreneur of the year by the Cámara de Empresarios Latinos de Houston. But, far more importantly, she is credited with helping invent the McDonald’s breakfast burrito:
“We were shocked when people asked for hot sauce,” Quijano recalled. “We didn’t understand why we didn’t have a product here that appealed to Hispanics, especially Mexicans.”
Soon after they opened their first restaurant, the late Dominic Quijano and his wife cooked up a McDonald’s breakfast burrito, a tortilla stuffed with sausage, green peppers, onions, eggs and cheese.
By 1989, their burrito went national.
A truly happy meal! We doubt any of today’s McDonald’s employees would create special menu items to please their customers. Mostly they smack their gum and talk amongst each other about hooking up with Hector last night instead of taking our order. Stuffed burrito indeed. Hmmph!

i actually like these lil suckers.

Um…I think a few people made breakfast tacos in Texas before some Cuban came along. Although she brought it to the masses while bastardizing it with preservatives and store-bought tortillas. Party.

@ el joto: Well, that’s odd. I just called my grandmother to verify and I’m pretty sure Cubans invented everything, ever.
