Spanish-language network Telemundo is set to launch a late night talk show hosted by Cuban-American comic Alex Cambert. The show, “Mas Vale Tarde,” will feature interviews with Latin American celebrities in both English and Spanish, ensuring twice as many corny jokes and terrible puns:

Cambert aims to add a little Latino “salsa” to a typical “Anglo” format.

“Late night shows in English tend to be drier, but we’re going to throw a nighttime fiesta.”

This sounds like a hot, spicy nightmare:

Cambert, who currently lives in Los Angeles, thinks the program is a chance for Hollywood personalities to reach out to the U.S. Hispanic audience.

They’re interested in our culture, they want to penetrate our market and nearly all of them are familiar with some phrases in Spanish,” he said, referring to stars who have shown a taste for Latino culture like Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, and Ben Affleck.

If by “culture” you mean “money,” then yes! We’re also not fully convinced “hiring a Mexican gardener,” “filming a music video” or “dating Jennifer Lopez” are the best examples of cultural immersion. But, on the bright side, at least this show will give us something to watch other than Shop Latino while we’re waiting for the high to wear off.

While they’re biting Conan O’Brien’s style, they should aim to be consistent. That way they can rescue Sheila E. from ‘Next Great American Band’ and put her up next to a set of timbales doing her best Max Weinberg imitations.

We love spreading our spicy salsa! We are all so caliente! Can someone pass the jalapeƱo peppers?

    *rolls eyes*

I love it when we stereotype ourselves.
