Observer Cartoon Teaches Us Latinos Look / Will Always Look Like Cheech Marin, Circa 1976

A recent article in the The New York Observer on New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s stance on immigration issues featured a cartoon of the governor riding in a convertible with what appears to be either Cheech circa “Up in Smoke” or a hipster from Brooklyn. The charming little caricature featured the caption: “Driving Mr. Eliot: Culminating in his immigrant ID crisis, Governor Spitzer has become a political pariah.”

We can’t see the brown, hairy dude’s legs, so without confirmation that he’s wearing a pair of jeans so skinny they cut off circulation to his genitals, we’re going to go with “greasy, skeevy Latino.” Tiny running shorts can go either way though. Or maybe he’s supposed to be Arab? Who knows. All these brown people kinda look the same.
