People Are Downloading “¿Por Qué No Te Callas?” Ringtones. So Our Work Is Done Here.

Does the people’s hatred for Hugo Chavez know no bounds? Do Latinos love telling each other to shut up more than life itself? Is royal worshipping at an all-time high? Does everyone just need to get a hobby? Yes to all of these and more! The United Kingdom’s Telegraph reports today that people in Spain are gaga for the inutterable words that King Juan Carlos I gave to Hugo Chavez when Chavez was all, “blah, blah, blah” at the Ibero-American summit in Chile the other week:

Around half a million people have downloaded a mobile phone ringtone featuring the words “Why don’t you shut up?”, uttered by Juan Carlos in frustration at Mr Chavez’s repeated interruptions.

We found this one with a quick internet search, not that you would download such silliness.

More than 700 videos [Ed. Note: Like this and this] have also been posted onto the YouTube website, parodying the King’s breach of diplomatic protocol.
These include a Nike advert featuring the Brazilian footballer Ronaldhino which ends: “Juan do it. Just shut up.”

It ain’t a meme until Nike’s involved. But how is Huey taking all this?

The Venezuelan leader afterwards suggested he was being persecuted like Jesus Christ, but both sides have since sought to play down the incident. [Ed: Unlike their constituents.]

Damn. We were so hoping for a crucifixion.

Um…can Steve Jobs get on that shit for the iPhone, please?

what’s with guanabee’s fascination and hatred of chavez? it’s not like there aren’t other politicians doing scummy things, bush for example.

meanwhile, i hear that the_ “¿Por Qué No Te Mueres, Coño!?”_ is really popular down on Calle Ocho.

@don’t get it: it’s simple. this is an american site. go to the venezuelan pop culture site for a pro-Chavez view. Oh, right. he doesn’t allow free press. sorry.

@el smrtmnky - Brilliant!
