We were saddened by reports yesterday of the death of 24 year-old Washington Redskins player Sean Taylor who was gunned down during a purported break-in at his home in Miami, Florida. Turns out the girlfriend and mother of his child that was reportedly with him at the time is Jackie Garcia (pictured at right), niece of actor Andy Garcia. The couple had been together since they attended Gulliver Preparatory Academy in Pinecrest, Florida and gave birth to a baby girl, also named Jackie, in May 2006. Our thoughts are with the family.
Death Hits Redskins Hard [Washington Post]

Oh my gosh. You guys actually said something nice and in a non-demeaning tone. KUDOS for having some heart.

The whole things sounds suspicious to me. Never have I heard of burglary during the night when the people are home. They call that a home invasions in DC and usually the suspects are not there to steal anything but money or drugs. Wouldn’t the sister of Jackie know how to turn the alarm off when she comes in? It’s just a coincedence that the burglar decided to pick the night the alarm is off.

This is so sad. I know people are dying as I type this but STILL, dude was only 24, born in 1983… What a shame.

If the girlfriend was a Black woman I would think that she was having an affair with another man and that the other boyfriend came in and shot Sean. With her being Hispanic and wealthy I have no clue. Of course I get this from watching too much Jerry Springer and Maury Povich.

I doudt if the police r really try n 2 find the killers. When a crime’s commited against a rich athlete they often go unsolved. The law do’nt give a shit about them.Just take a look back at past unsolved crimes against them.
Posted by Shame On Me | November 30, 2007
cuban or Hispanic doesn’t correlate with white only …. hispanic/latino is just an ethnic category…. Jackie is Cuban but she just happens to be a white woman so what.
R.I.P. Sean Taylor.
Posted by ebz | November 30, 2007
There’s dark latinos and there’s light ones. There’s dark african americans and there’s light ones. There’s tanned caucasions and there’s pale caucasions. There’s dark cubans and there’s light cubans. The point i’m try n 2 make is,looks r deseving.Never jugde a book by it’s cover.

all of you are idiots…yall are arguing about the ladies race instead of grieving for sean….HOW STUPID!
Posted by me | November 30, 2007
Look why does it matter what color the damn girl is? She is a minority and white people dont care how light or dark. They down us black and hispanic people all day and its people like you dummies that just make them seem right. Be PROUD black or hispanic cuz neither race is white. Its people like u who make those like me(mixed raced) dislike both sides. Every race cheats, so stop saying dumb stuff. Educate urself. So SAD!!!!!! U Freaking idiots!!!!!!!!!! Always turning things into a race matter.

Y is it when a person dies people always want 2 say they was a good person, and noone tell them there lie n.But when they talk about the bad theyve done people get upset. Sean spit on another player before. That is the most disrespectful thing u could do.I know he’s gone now, but dont expect people 2 only remember the good.

To all that will post a comment,
Remember we are all created equal, God does not make exceptions of person. He created us by different color, race & belief. The harsh reality is that a life has been taken, a child is left fatherless, a parent is greaving over a sons death. Family & friends are greaving over Sean Taylors death. I’m just a regular person that was left sadden by this news, as if it were my son or friend that died. I ask all that may read or post a comment, that instead of using hurtful words and fighting against each other, let us come together as one and pray for Jackie, baby Taylor, family members & friends of Sean. So God can give them peace & strength, while going threw this painful trial. Let us feel compassion as if it were our family member that was taken from us. May God grant us all a wonderful X-mas & a bless New Year. To all that are going threw hardship & pain right now, may your burden be lifted & may our Lord pour out his peace & blessings upon you. God Bless!

Unpopular,
My apologies to u & every one posting a comment. My comment was not intended to offend u or anyone. My sincere apology! Your’e absolutely correct one has the choice to either post a negative comment or positive one. Anyone has the right to express themselves in how they truly feel. That’s what makes us all unique. Also I’m fortunate to live in the land were we have freedom of speech. But with all do respect I rather post a positive comment that will edify myself & the reader then write something hurtful or negative that will cause to offend anyone. Which truly it was not my intention of doing when I posted my comment earlier. As for people dying younger than 24 youre right again people die everyday know matter if your a day old or 100 yrs old. But that still does not stop one from feeling sad over a death of a person. Now my question to you, with all respect, do u find it strange that a total stranger like myself that did not know Sean Taylor personally should not feel sad because of his death. Do u belive that one should only be sad for a person who passes only if u know them. Since u made the remark how r u so sad by his death. Last time I was aware God created me with emotions. Sometimes things in life make me cry, laugh, feel angry, feel happy or even sad. Quite honestly yes Sean Taylor’s death brought sadness to me, though I did not know him, Heck watching a sad movie brings tears to my eyes & that is fiction. So imagine hearing the news that a young man full of life was murdered, I’m sorry if that sounds abnormal to u that a person can feel sadness for a stranger. He was just begining life but as u said which I totaly agree with u. God knows the time of our birth & our departure. That is one appointment we cannot cancel. When God calls us home that date & time is already chosen for each & everyone of us.. As your closing statement we should worry about ourselves, With all do respect I do not agree, this world would be a better place if we would care about someone other than ourselves. Hope u change your opinon about me be a phony, did not try to come off as one. I just have respect for life & it gets me angry when a person thinks they have the right to take another ones life, without thinking of the consequences it will bring to themselves & others. Wishing u the very best, I hope my response makes u understand my previous comment. Thanks for your honesty. Have a great holiday. Unity

Unity,u get much respect from me cuz ur man/woman enough 2 disagree but at the same time show respect in do n so.Ur a spiritual person and ur proof that thou can love thou neighbor.God bless u,ur family and friends,as well as ur enemy. The same prayer goes out 2 all of u and exspecially Sean Taylor’s family.

If we’re all equal and there’s no race better than any other… then why do black men behave as though every race of woman is superior to their own?
Posted by JoJo | December 02, 2007
Sean Taylor’s family is mixed anyway! His grandmother was hispanic and his cousin Anthony Leon is mixed. This is not uncommon in Miami.
Get a life! People choose who they want to be with based on more than race/color/ethnicity!!!
She’s an educated woman..not some random hoodrat groupie.
RIPSEAN TAYLOR!!! Godbless his girlfriend and daughter.
