Latinos spend a lot of money on unnecessary shit, including expensive rides, according to a “Consumer Expenditure Survey” by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The survey also found that Hispanic spending on new vehicles increased at an annual rate of 9.2 percent, while the overall national rate grew by an anemic 1.9 percent – below the rate of inflation during that same period.

Cha-ching, you anemic non-car-buyers, you!

And it doesn’t look like Hispanics will put the brakes on new vehicle purchases anytime soon, especially since the Hispanic buyer is in general younger than the average purchaser is. New cars and truck sales to Hispanics are projected to grow 29 percent by 2010, according to J.D. Power & Associates. Hispanic consumers are expected to spend $40 billion a year on motor vehicles and parts by the end of this decade.

We got money, bitches! Well, some of us do. Perhaps? It’s all so mysterious, like the eerie blue-green glow emitting from under your bitching Chevy’s suicide doors:

So who is this Hispanic car buyer? Despite major automotive manufacturers’ growing interest in the Hispanic consumer, research on whom is buying what is still scarce.

Our cousin Hector, hello. Have you seen the rims on his Escalade? Its like he has entirely too much money or entirely too small a penis. Or something.

This story is actually quite sad. I am never ceased to be amazed at our people’s ability to overspend and buy the most expensive SUV or truck they can barely afford just for “el que dira de la gente”. Here in Washington DC, you see 10 mofos stuffed in an apartment and yet they are sporting $40,000 Toyota 4-runners. Too many of us are overly concerned with displaying material wealth while losing the shirts off your back trying to maintain that lifestyle.

I wonder how much spending among latinos went up on education? Oh, right, no one cares about that.

No one cares about education, it is not just latinos, who want to live la vida loca, the fabolous life and so on…we all want to be bling bling and not care who invented the telephone, thats for losers!

@latinogamer: I agree we, and others, often don’t care. But as latinos, you would think that many would want to have savings, investments, etc so they can take care of family in the future. Isn’t that our reason for being as latinos, FAMILY (or isn’t that what the stereotpe is)? If we are all about the family but how is a $40,000 truck helping our families?

My guess is that most of us are all about the now. Most of us live life like there is no tomorrow. Sure it is fun now but who knows, or cares for that matter, about next year. Ten years, no que se diga.

I buy my rides thinking first how many pollos I can hide in it. Talk about a car paying for itself!
