Does anyone know why Latinos are called Latinos and why the region of Latin America are called Latin America? Let’s see because Latino ethnicities originate from a region where Latin-born languages are dominant like Spanish, for example, and the most widely spoken in Latin America. French and Portoguese are two other Latin-born languages spoken in that region.

Now, Hispanic, really applies to those who ethnicity(and our obviously ethnic Latino) originates in a Spanish-speaking country in Latin America(i.e. Mexico; Argentina). Basically, Mexico & Central America(which are a part of the North American continent), South America & Spanish-speaking nations in the Caribbean. During ancient times Spain was called Hispania, but that doesn’t mean that their Hispanic because their European. The Spanish speaking countries of today were conquered by the Spaniards, which is how Spanish came to be the dominant language in the region of Latin America. Spaniards are not descended of ancestors who spoke a language(Spanish) that has its origins in the language of Ancient Romans like other languages(i.e. Italian).

Their are only three races in this world: White(or Caucasian), Black and Asian. Then we have ethnic groups(i.e. European, Latino, African, Middle Eastern, Native American) & in the case of Middle Easterners, some of are the sub-ethnic category of Arab. Not all who are of Middle Eastern decent or live in that region are Arab.

Jessica has gone blonde like the greats before her…Shakira…and I think America likes to play up her latina-ness because of the obsession with “exotic”.

Latinos are not at the point of mainstream acceptance where we can afford to have pieces of our culture rejected by people that the public assumes shares that culture. And whether she likes it or not, she is perceived Latina as much as she is perceived female. If she wasn’t such a tonta, she could’ve been a real American and used that to her financial advantage.

Come on compadres… lighten up.
Stop thinking “latino” is a race, it’s a culture (with all the races in it, mind you) not a race, we have Blacks (J. Laboriel? Samorita?), Asians (all those Wong?) Europeans (Fox?), Arabs (Carlos Slim?) etc.

If Jessica doesn’t have that culture then, she simply doesnt. PUNTO it doesn’t matter who her father was or if her grandfather made a choice (he was supposed not to make any choices as a free individual?)

What I really hate of the “Latino-chicano-hispanic-raza-_insert your racial/cultural pseudo here_” is the retarded and double-standard mentality that because some one has some “raza blood” in their veins they should really claim to be “raza” for the rest of their lives.

We don’t ask of our black people in latin-america Brazil, Colombia, Cuba - you name it - to proclaim themselves “AFRICAN FOREVER” do we? and if they did we would look down on them…

I have Mexican-born friends whose parents came from Sweden and they do not go around saying “I’m European bro… I’m not Mexican…I’m Nordic look at me” because they know if they did Mexicans would say “what a pendejo” and look down on them,

Let’s see it the other way around… if a Mexican is born and raised in another culture and he claims he’s not Mexican we say “what a pendejo” .

People are free to claim to be whatever the heck they want, if a German is born and raised in the US and he doesn’t connect to his ancestry and says “I’m an American” nobody in Germany will say “you’re German for life bro, if you think you aren’t you’re a Pendejo”
