To honor the first centenary of Frida Kahlo’s birth, Converse has produced 3 limited-edition shoes inspired by the Mexican painter. Our favorite model, called The Two Fridas, lets you relive the moment when Frida Kahlo’s vagina was pierced by a metal rod in an accident, forming a modern art masterpiece of blood and flowers. The Converse Mexico web site thus enthuses:
Frida Kahlo; proud of being a Mexican and of her cultural traditions, always demonstrated a deep sense of independence and rebellion against the establishment
Yes and the best way to celebrate that is by letting a multinational crappy-shoe company shill her art to make a buck.

This was news in Mexico some six months ago. However it was publicized in the US only this week in www.MiBlogestuBlog.com You guys should give some credit to the blogs where you get your ideas. Cheers!

you cant stop people from wanting to make money, globalization is here to stay. instead of criticizing, you should celebrate the fact they picked frida and maybe by the means of these shoes some people will be converted to mexican art and will stop looking at mexican people as cheap labor, not to mention that money from these shoes will go to the frida kahlo fund that will built houses to amerindian people in need. thank you.
