If you’re young and poor, you probably have a cell phone. Or so says a new poll, which lists Hispanic males as among the youngest and poorest. Or something:
The federal data showed once again that young, poor, male and Hispanic people are likelier to have only wireless telephone service.
Nearly one in five Hispanic adults — 18 percent — have cell phones but no landline phones, the survey showed. That was up from 15 percent in the last half of 2006.
Throw in a dilapidated loft and a penchant for screenprinting our own t-shirts and it’s almost as if we’re hip.

In this day and age why would you need a landline?
Landlines are like TV antennas or something…..

Que es landline?

So no one knows the benefits of having a landline? Here are two that come to mind:
1. . It’s easier to pinpoint the location of a phone call when using a landline. Cell phones are more difficult to track, and some communities aren’t prepared to identify the exact location of a cell phone user.
2. Landline/corded phones are better for emergency situations (e.g., blackouts and other disruptions that may interfere with cell phone signals)
I find the article kind of hilarious. It must suck to be young, poor, male and Hispanic. Thank goodness for the military. :)

I haven’t had a landline at home since 2001. And I don’t miss it.
