Latino immigrants in the United Sates are making more than ever before –even despite a lagging economy– according to a new survey. And, what’s more, looks like they’re not taking anyone’s “rightful” job while doing it:

Foreign-born immigrants in recent years have made significant strides in wages over their counterparts of a decade earlier, while not taking away jobs from American workers, according to the study by the Pew Hispanic Center.

Surely it has nothing to do with that fairy-tale, assimilation?:

“Assimilation is real,” said Rakesh Kochar, a researcher with the nonpartisan center based in Washington, D.C. “It works.”

The proof, he said, is that the percentage of Latino immigrant workers at the lowest end of the wage scale fell by 6 percent from 1995 to 2005. And the proportion of Latino immigrants earning $8.50 to $16.20 an hour in that same period grew by about 5 percent.

At least now we know we can leave behind a trail of money while we’re running from the po-po in Jersey. Kidding! We are law-abiding citizens, like many upstanding Latinos. Plus, like we’d ever be caught dead in New Jersey. Scoff.

So, we’re poor people with cell phones that pound tuba thumping music, but we got a wage increase? What were we before the wage increase?
