Latinos Feel Discriminated Against While Doing Their Holiday Stealing. We Mean Shopping.

A poll conducted by Manhattanville College says Latinos and Blacks face more discrimination while shopping than White shoppers:

Most Latinos who say they’ve experienced discrimination say it happens while shopping (53 percent). Sixty percent of blacks say the same thing, compared with 44 percent of whites. Discrimination–real or perceived–in stores is likely to be even more pronounced during the busy holiday season, but stores would be wise to be aware of consumer perceptions because bad shopping experiences translate into lost customers.

This is probably because we’re not the ones shopping at home from the L.L. Bean catalogue. Joking! In all fairness, we find the opposite is true, too. If we shop in predominantly Latino neighborhoods and the employees don’t realize we speak Spanish, they usually ignore us or are just generally aloof and unhelpful. God. People act like they’ve never seen a naked person before.

Maybe if they’d stop walking up to the store clerk with an extended switchblade?

I’m from Texas and I’ve never heard of Manhattanville College. I know it’s real but it sounds like the alma mater of the Muppets.
