Mexican Luchador Wants You To Drop That Bowl Of Turtle Soup
7 December 2007, 2:00 PM. By Carlos Posas
Mexican wrestler, “El Hijo del Santo,” in addition to being able to kick your ass, recently became a spokesperson for conservationist organization Wildcoast. The wrestler, after becoming aware of the many dangers and threats that face our oceans, started a campaign to halt pollution and the extinction of marine species, empower people to clean the Tijuana River, and support gray whale conservation efforts in Baja California. According to Good Magazine:
Beyond a general message of environmental stewardship (Wildcoast reports that in 2006, beaches between Tijuana and San Diego were closed for 196 days due to contamination), de Santo’s main issue is the preservation of endangered sea turtles—turtle meat often ends up in soup and tacos, and the eggs end up on the black market.
What? Oh, sorry, that made us hungry. Uh, save the turtles. Yeah.
