Just in time for the holiday season, while we’re all full of love for the human race, gathering round the fireplace with our stuffed caribou, we received this video entitled, “White Mexicans” in our inbox.
Some Mexicans want you to know that they are not brown or down with you. Hi-larious!
Hilarious indeed. Did you know that Mexico was invented by White people? And they still have all the power (though none of the English grammatical skills despite their impressive private schooling)? Well we did know that part about the power and the grammar. But not the inventing! Also, if the Indigenous people would stop spitting out papooses, Mexico could go back to being Italian or Mennonite or…oh shit we got bored. that video really sucked ballz, though to give them a teeny weeny bit of credit, i can see why the video makers felt so inclined to make an infomerical of sorts; in their quest for the formation of a national identity post mexican revolution, el pri (the political party in charge of planning and implementing national policy in mexico for over 70 years) equated mexicanidad with the mestizo, relegated indigenous cultures to myth-making fodder (thank you octavio paz!) and allowed very little room for criollo culture.

The whole question of “race” (like “race”) itself is irrelevant, given that Mexico hasn’t recognized the concept in any legal sense since 1824.
If the video was made by a “white Mexican” he is probably a student living in the U.S. and insecure about his identity, or a Mexican-American. I’ve yet to meet a Mexican (even a “white” one) with this particular hangup.
40% of Mexican were not “white” in the XIII century… more like 4%.
And, while maybe “white” Mexicans are generally wealthier than the rest of the country (excluding the Mennonites, who are as dirt-poor as the rest of their norteño neighbors — who are largely descended from European migrants but so what?), but the large fortunes in Mexico rest largely on post-Revolutionary immigrants… Carlos Slim is “white”?

*Mexican is not a race, it’s a nationality
*Mestizo is a person of MIXED native & EUROPEAN blood
*According to CIA.gov, Mestizos make up 60%, pure blood Indios make up 30%, Whites make up 9% of Mexico’s population.
*Neither the president, the richest man, nor the party that’s in control of Mexico are pure white. So I struggle to understand the concept of “we still having the power”
Why should we even divide ourselves like the US? There are a lot of mestizos who look like they’re white, we even saw some in the film. It is not like it will further anything though, white, black, mestizo or asian, you’re going to be Mexican in the US, and we won’t hold you to any higher standard in Mexico.

Let me tell you something, if you want to “preserve” your white race, then all you Italians and Spaniards who want to “preserve” the colour of your skin, should pack up and fly back to your native countries.
We, as Mexicans are not being ignorant, the creator and yourself (unless you’re one in the same) are the ones that share that burden. How dare you say we’re the ones being ignorant, just because we’re not 100% Spaniard does not make us any less than you. The Spanish may have conquered Mexico in 1500s, but if you fast forward to today, our country has a majority population, and unlike our neighbours to the north, it ISN’T the white Europeans.
Face it, you’re part of the minority, if you want out, you can go north(US/Canada), or south(Argentina/Uruguay), but do not come to our country asking us to keep an open mind, while you “preserve” your race.
Mexico is an awesome country, ALL the people are great, hard working, and deserve respect. Why is it always a problem with whites wanting to establish their superiority? I always thought that was something we had that USA did not.
Actually, I do not want to generalize all white-Mexicans, because I know some who are proud to be Mexican, and they do not flaunt the colour of their skin.
To those whites who want to preserve their race, think about this, you’re in a country where a significant majority of the population is of mixed descent. Obviously, their intention is not to preserve a race, but to look beyond that. If that is something you are not comfortable with, nobody is forcing you to stay, nobody is forcing you to intermingle, but if you try to say you’re better, or deserve to be treated differently because of the color of your skin, you’re dead wrong!

I think all the world will become like us hispanic/latino peoples. With such a mixture of cultures in our history. I think we’re the future. Yeah. The future.

As a child my parents took me to visit my Madrina’s family in Chipilo, Puebla, who happen to be Italian-Mexican and are the most humblest people I have ever met. One highlight of the trip was when my Madrin’s son and I wandered off running on the farm and got stuck in 3 feet of cow shit and mud. We had to ride back to the city in tightey whiteys because my pops under no circumstance would allows to soil his velour seats.

OK, the reality is that in Latin America, there are whites, blacks, indios, mestizos, mulattos, etc. There are no “Latinos” as we define them in the U.S.
Racism is severe part of life that governs the economic, legal, and social systems of most countries in Latin America. As someone mentioned, just look at the telenovelas that are usually populated exclusively with white actors.
Pretending that there aren’t white supremacists in Latin America is silly; to do so, ignores the reality of life.

White, like brown is a subjective term, seeing how most whites are mixed, and vice versa. If you are speaking of whites along the med sea, then you are depicting people anywhere from light,light skinned to darker olive skinned, and sometimes darker. Most Mexicans are mixed, or are mestizos. They hold most of the power in Mexico, only allowing the more European people to do their thing, because of less importance put on dinero and more on being free from too many of those rather mundane concerns. Unlike the once invading Spaniards, they usually don’t feel the neccessity to build an empire, simply because they are surrounded by pushed aside “Natives”, because they are the pushed aside Natives, mestizos included, in a country their own, surrounded by their own. Now if the soley “European” doesn’t want anything to do with the Natives, mestizos included, then what can I say? Who cares?

that is impossible to do, italy is and spain are full of illegal and legal immigrants mainly from africa and the middle east. Go to london, you will see about 60% whites and 40% nonwhite(depending on the neighborhood)
go to nairobi, with the exception of a few tourists it will be 99.99% black.

1. If you would like to post a comment regarding your race, please, please, learn how to express yourself appropriately, otherwise you run a very high risk of sounding uneducated and ignorant. This I assure you is not the best way to represent your ethnicity.
2. There is nothing wrong in finding pride in your genetic make-up. Its fantastic to be able to find our differences and yet be able to accept each other despite them.
3. Saying that a particular race discovered, created, or started a country is ridiculous as the human race has been in constant migration since the start of civilization.
4. If I were the person making this video, I would not boast about ‘creating’ a country that is at third world status, has high levels of poverty/unemployment, pollution, and social inequality. The truth of the matter is the Mexico as a whole ( regarldes of you being ‘white’) is looked down upon, because it is unable to give its people the necessary resources to survive. So, if its ‘your people’ that are in ‘control’ then it’s your people we should blame for the conditions Mexico finds itself in…and that is NOTHING to be proud of.

All this stuff is stupid. Latin America doesn´t have real white people. I have been living in different parts of the continent, and hell yeah Argentina, Uruguay has more white population than its other neighbours , but it also has indigenous and mestizo stuff. Chile you can find mestizos that “look”white but if they could have a DNA test for sure they have some indigeonous trace. And the rest is mixed with more or less indigenous blood or african or both. Is funny to see all those people with inferiority complex trying to be white. In latin America many people have cosmetic surgeries,to try to look more caucasic, that is all.
So those Mexican soap opera actresses, hmmm well most are product of surgeries and others, are Russian born who learnt to speak with Mexican accent.

Mexico is a smelting pot, where even Mexican actresses can be white without the surgery. I know plenty of beautiful, white ladies who are mixed, mixed, mixed with Native blood by at least half, and they are far prettier than the ones in the soaps!

There was an era when white people wanted to rule all of south and north America. They got to the US border, and still can’t completely rule that. Native and Latins in general are a vivacious people who have not allowed that to happen, completely. The mix that is going on now is incredible. I’ll bet someone in Giselle’s family either was, or is now currently with a Native, or mixed person in Brazil? Does this matter? It does most of the time, unless of course, they would conquer without all the spoils?
