Did you hear about the kid who got mauled by a tiger at the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas Day? Yup, he was one of ours. Says the San Francisco Chronicle:
The three victims, all young men from San Jose, were visiting the zoo together. They were all present just outside the tiger’s grotto when the tiger escaped, killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr. with a savage slash to the throat, and injured the other two. The names of the survivors, who are brothers ages 19 and 23, have not been released.
Police are investigating just how the 4 year-old Siberian managed to escape her grotto, since zoo director Manuel Mollinedo said no doors had been left ajar, then track the two other victims almost 300 feet across the zoo to a cafe, ignoring all other patrons, before she attacked and mauled one of them again. So far, evidence suggests she may have had some help—from her victims:
[P]olice are investigating the possibility that one of the victims […] climbed over a waist-high fence and then dangled a leg or other body part over the edge of a moat that kept the big cat away from the public, sources close to the investigation said Wednesday.
The minimal evidence found at the scene included a shoe and blood in an area between the gate and the edge of the 25- to 30-foot-wide moat […]
The injured victims fled, leaving a trail of blood, which police believe the tiger followed for 300 yards up a zoo pathway. As the tiger cornered and attacked one of the brothers, four police officers arrived, distracted the animal and shot it dead.
Evidence is also leading investigators to think the men may have been taunting the tiger or otherwise working it into an agitated state before it escaped. Interestingly, the Oakland Zoo tiger exhibit was packed the very next day. People. Are. Fascinating.

fuckin tiger. How did the tiger track the other boys, did they boys have the blood of the dead victim on them. Did they get swiped by the cat, when the two brothers tried to save him from the cat. And what kind of moron taunts a 300 plus pound cat?

anyway… no offense to the dead kid and the other 2 victims but stupid pendejos! seriously why would you fuck with something that you know can kill you?

Chris Rock said it best “the tiger went tiger!”

It’s called the process of selection. Natures way of weeding out the stupid and the week from the human species.

According to his last post on his MySpace page his mood was “high”. So maybe the Tiger just wanted some spiked brownies.

I feel feel bad for the family, but why did they have to kill the tiger. There are so few Siberian tigers left & billions of idiots.
Posted by Will | December 27, 2007
The officers shot the tiger because it started to approach them, as they attend one of the victims. Also, there was so much confusion for the officers, they did not know how many animals had escaped.
@la roncha
Im from san jose also… what a small world

Wow…another villiage idiot meets his demise. The only sad part about this story is the death of the tiger and the lawsuit his lousy parents are going to file against the zoo.

They better perform an autopsy on the “victim” because I’ll bet he was on dope. Save SF taxpayers from a lawsuit by the idiot parents.

It was wrong for the tiger to be killed and the other tigers shouldn’t be in a cage right now!

Have some respect for this childs family. This is not the time to be calling him an idiot or saying the tiger should not be shot! Yes, it’s sad that the tiger had to be killed for just being a tiger, but unfortunate circumstances happen when you mix wild animals with people. Just have a little class and think how you would feel if this was your son or daughter that was no longer with you.

dude thats a really sad story about the tiger slashing the kid but the sousa gang has been hanging around sf general waiting for those boys to walk out..The dad called the boys to see if they knew where the kid was…they lied to him….also a humorous note the kids father looks just like Horatio from SNL…..sorry but its so true check 4 ur self…peace out from la mission…

I have no sympathy for the three boys. what kids on xmas day go to a zoo, most are home playing with their new videos. in stead they decide to go and tease a wild animal and show how tough they are. The comment made that he was a hero for saving his friends, how does his father know this no one saw what happened! the other two are not talking gee I wonder why. the tiger should never have been killed

the boys should never have taunted or harassed the tiger. it is unfortunate that the tiger had to die for these actions and that the zoo will face the consequences of the boys’ irresponsible actions. i hope they find out the Dhaliwal brothers’ role in this tragedy also. they are not cooperating at this time.

I’m more sorry for the tigar than the kids. If they had never messed with the tiger they probably would have been here still.

I have never understood the unbridled love and support some animals (cute tigers and dogs) get from people who eat meat.

The Dhaliwals had slingshots and an emptied vodka bottle in their car:

They also hired Mike Garagos the loser (you may know him from the cases: Scott Peterson, Whacko Jacko, Winona Klepto, etc.)

If these kids did infact taunt the tiger then unfortunately they got what they deserved. It is terrible that it happened but a wild animal is a wild animal. It is more unfortunate that the Tiger was killed for the simple reason of “Being a Tiger” What do you expect. My thoughts are with the zoo and their keepers. To loose such a beautiful animal due to human stupidity must be horrible.
