Sergio Gomez and Zayda Peña Latest Mexican Narco Singers To Be Murdered In A Wave Of Violence

2Pac and Biggie got nothing on the Mexican gruperos singing along the Texas-Mexico border. This year there have been six executions of such artists and this weekend marked the seventh and eighth:
The tortured body of [Sergio Gomez, a singer with K-Paz de la Sierra] was found along a highway Monday and [the 28 year-old lead singer of Zayda y los Culpables Zayda Peña] was shot to death, police said, the latest Mexican musicians killed in a wave of violence over the past year.
Gomez allegedly got into a car with three people after a concert in Michoacan headed for Puerto Vallarta and was never seen alive again.
Peña was gunned down in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the city across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas, in an emergency room Saturday while emerging from surgery for gunshot wounds to the back she’d receive the night before at a motel where she’d been staying. The middle of an emergency room?! There must have been tons of witnesses!
Although police said they had no suspects or motive for the killing, it seemed a classic gangland-style slaying that has killed hundreds of people in Mexico this year.
Two people — a friend of Peña and the motel manager — were killed in the initial attack on her, shortly before midnight Friday.
Hundreds of people shot execution style in one of the biggest drug trafficking nations in the world and no motive? Guess it’s just a big, fat Mexican mystery.

Zayda Peña’s murder is being investigated in both the U.S. and Mexico, since it appears she was only the secondary target her grilfriend’s crazy ex-boyfriend with a gun… who either bought a car, a gun — or both — in Brownsnville recently.
K-Paz doesn’t have anything to do with narco music…
Narco singers or not, that’s really besides the point isn’t it? The point is that a bunch of professional musicians in Mexico are getting knocked off. Some of them sing about drugs and some don’t. Either way, it’s awfully suspect. And very difficult to buy these stories about crimes of passion. If you’ve grown up in the border area, like I did, and seen as many brutal, torturous murders go unpunished as I have, you’d be suspicious, too. The worst crooks in Mexico are the cops who conspire to cover the activity of the drogeros who own them. Don’t let the official stories fool you.

being una guera de estados unidos even i know that sergio or zayda sang narcocorridos. they mostly sang love ballads. its a matter of money or lust. you pay for protection in mexico especially anywhere close to michoacan. i lived in cd. hidalgo for 4 months i knew some of sergio’s family and also his family here in united states in avon ,in. what sergio did behind closed doors was his own buisness but i know most of us duranguense music lovers would appreciate you changing your title. because neither of them were narco singers.

omg I can’t believe K-Paz and Zayda are being called “narco” singers. Has the person writing this actually listened to their songs? They are romantic songs like about love, girl/boyfriends and heartbreak. They do not sing narcocorridos. I do not know why they got killed though there are lots of rumors. I heard it was coz Sergio got involved with a woman who was married to a druglord, and as for Zayda something about her girl friend’s jealous ex-boyfriend…
