Republican Senator Tom Tancredo is refusing to participate in this weekend’s Spanish-language Republican debate, to be held in Miami, because he believes it encourages illegal immigration:
“What all my colleagues — what the other candidates are doing — it’s encouraging violation of the law because it’s saying, ‘Don’t worry about the fact that you have to know English to earn citizenship,’ ” said Mr. Tancredo, the only Republican to turn down the invitation from Univision for Sunday night’s debate and who said the other candidates’ participation was worse than pandering.
Because trying to get people to vote for you is a terrible tactic when running for public office. You see, it’s all a matter of principle:
For the Colorado congressman, it’s a matter of principle: He said the other candidates are contributing to the Balkanization of the country by joining the debate, in which the candidates will speak English, but their answers will be translated into Spanish for broadcast on the nation’s largest Spanish-language network.
And it’s one of the few areas left to Mr. Tancredo, the original anti-illegal immigration candidate in the Republican field, as he struggles to set himself apart from the others who have adopted many of his stances on the issue — so much so that he said he is being “out-Tancredoed.”
Out-Tancredoed, eh? This gets us thinking: If Santorum can take on a whole new meaning after its namesake indulges in embarrassing behavior, why not the same for Tancredo?
We know all some a couple of you are fairly witty and creative. So we invite you to share your ideas on what, exactly, a “Tancredo” might be.

He isn’t participating cause he knows that Univision and audience will piledrive him repeatedly for his previous rabid and xenophobic comments.
He and his supporters have opened my eyes to the level of zealous racism that still exists in some sectors of society towards latinos.

What about the pus from a herpes sore? That still needs a name.

Hmmm he’s not going to win this way. So maybe
“Don’t Tancredo that situation?”
“Don’t be such a Tancredo?”
So whenever someone is going to be/is being an absolute asshole?
Though I do like ella’s idea about the pus from a herpes sore.

Tancredo (tan-kree-doh)
1. The delusion that white people were the first people on the soil called America.
2. The false belief that only your race is allowed in America.
Example: The Republican party is notorious for their strange tancredo.
Example: I cannot go out with him, he’s got tancredo written all over him!

How about the bulbous alcoholic nose he’s sporting? That could be a Tancredo.
W.C. Fields was famous for his Tancredo.

I don’t pretend to know if there is an “ulterior” motive behind what he says but I agree COMPLETELY that anyone who voluntarily seeks citizenship should speak AND read English. How else can you possible participate completely and without barriers in the debates that define our country. A country without a language and unifying culture will, in the end extinguish. Nothing wrong (and everything right) with speaking as many languages as you can, but one must be English. Nothing wrong with celebrating your cultural roots but the self-selected goal of the applicant for citizenship is to become an “American” citizen, and if it ain’t what is the point?

tsk tsk tancredo…by participating its saying that you do care about us and that makes us want to be more involved in politics and actually go out and become active citizens that will want to vote

How about this for a definition:
Tancredo: When a guinea eggplant motherfucker who’s just a generation off the boat himself starts talking smack about immigrants.
