Wal-Mart might not pay you enough to eat or to give little Timmy his presents / life-saving surgery, but they’ll invite the Three Kings to their stores in order to show sensitivity to those people who need yet another holiday to buy things for at Wal-Mart:
For the second consecutive year, Santa Claus won’t be the only special visitor posing for pictures with children at Wal-Mart. The Three Kings will also be making appearances in select Wal-Mart stores during the holiday season to help celebrate Three Kings Day. As part of this Hispanic-themed holiday campaign, Wal-Mart will also feature Rosca de Reyes (Hispanic holiday Kings Cake) and traditional hot chocolate for its customers.
“At Wal-Mart, we are very proud to be able to support our Hispanic customers in the celebration of their holiday traditions and to offer unique buying experiences that demonstrate Wal-Mart’s support of the Hispanic community,” said Gisel Ruiz, Wal-Mart’s vice president and regional general manager for West Texas and New Mexico.
Because we’ve got money too, bitches, and we’re going to spend it on as many holidays as possible. How about a confusingly named doll for the little angel in your life?
One special item Wal-Mart will feature this year is the Baby Abuelita doll. The dolls, designed by a Hispanic vendor, are aimed at helping preserve Hispanic heritage for every generation. Abuelita Rosa and Abuelito Pancho sing Spanish lullabies (“canciones de cuna”), which are traditional Hispanic childhood songs.
Like “Gasolina?”

Baby abuelita? That sounds rather scary, as in spoon-feeding your abuelita or changing her diapers. Which in a family like mine may happen to you at some point anyway.

I wonder if Gisel Ruiz is the one responsible for the Spanish-speaking Santa Clos at my Texas Wal-eh-mar?
Also, I might change my comments name to Baby Abuelita.

I guess that ‘Epiphany Sales’ didn’t have the ring Wal-Mart’s people were looking for in the heartland.
