Why Didn’t We Think Of That: Harvard Latino Doctor Writes Book On How To Get Pregnant
21 December 2007, 9:00 AM. By Daniel Mauser
It’s as obvious as the engorged womb on our pregnant, 13-year-old niece, but somehow we overlooked the opportunity to write a book on fertility as one of the world’s foremost authorities—Latinos. But one Harvard medical doctor, Jorge E. Chavarra of Bogota, did. According to Dr. Chavarra, diet has a heck of a lot to do with getting knocked up and guess what food is figured prominently on his list of must-eats? Beans. Also, being too poor to afford much meat helps. It’s like it’s all coming together in our heads. More deets after the jump:
- Avoiding trans-fats, the artery-clogging fats found in many commercial products and fast foods
- Eating more vegetable protein, like beans and nuts, and less animal protein
- Drinking a glass of whole milk or having a small dish of ice cream or full-fat yogurt every day; temporarily trading in skim milk and low or no-fat dairy products for their full-fat versions
- Getting into the “fertility zones” for weight and physical activity
We would like to add to this list, “getting drunk and acting like a slut.” It worked for our 13 year-old niece.
