Ordinarily, contemporary art makes us stick our fingers down our throats till we upchuck some contemporary art, but sometimes a Brazilian artist comes along and makes big, squishy things that look like a giant Today sponge or some balls. Yeah, that’s right. We said balls. Ernesto Neto (redundant much, Mr. and Mrs. Neto?) is one such artist. He’s featured today on Gawker’s new sci-fi, nerd site i09, even though there appears to be no current exhibition attached to the story. A trip to Designboom reveals this about Mr. Neto:

ernesto neto works with abstract installations
which often take up the entire exhibition space.
his materials are gossamer-thin, light,
stretchable fabrics in nylon or cotton. like fine
membranes fixed to the ceiling by long,
stretched threads his works hang down into
the room and create shapes that are almost
organic.
