Casa D’Ice restaurant, located in beautiful North Versailles, PA, is, as you could probably garner from its name, one of the finer eating establishments one could hope to visit. Not content to merely serve its patrons the finest Italian Hoagie west of Napoli, Casa D’Ice has achieved a certain amount of notoriety by displaying humorous, thought-provoking messages of hope on its sign.

Oh, and just in case anyone should accuse proprieter and post-modern Chaucerian wordsmith Bill Balsamico of tolerance, he makes it clear that his restaurant’s clever name and infamous signage is 100% reflective of the values we hold dear in the U! S! A! :

For 23 years, I was in the Ice Business and when I sold the business using my legal Italian Heritage, came the name

“Casa D’ Ice” for “House of Ice”. I can not help it that the Spanish use is the same name for house.

So, for those who question my use of “Casa” when I am against illegal aliens, I hope this explains it.

These signs are reflective of the times. I hope this inflammatory rhetoric concerning immigration is the kick in the pants that latinos need in this country to register to vote and be more politically aware and involved. You see the Republicans trashing the Miami Cubans? Want to hypothesize as to why? Cause they vote (i.e. Republican) and vote as a united block! It is unconscionable that some latinos don’t become citizens when they have the recourse to do so.

Though I am somewhat a fiscal and social conservative, I would never vote for the Republicans because of their coded racist rhetoric. FTPs!

Oh, Bill Balsamico, you silly man. If you are a Christian, I hope you will kindly remember that Jesus didn’t speak English either. And if you happen to reach the pearly gates, I hope you see a sign similar to your distasteful rhetoric. But on the bright side, I’m sure Hitler will scoot over to make room for you in his bunker.

Yeah the guy at Pat’s steaks in Phila. has a “speak-ida english” or get out attitude.

I say we have a right to say how many people come to this country, I even say you have a right to be an ass as well, but let’s play fair with the sorry suckers that are actually here from somewhere else… Some of them are very busy trying to gang rape Chinese students attending medical school. After all they have nothing to loose: they don’t even work under their own names or have any identification at all, and the rest of them have TB.

Do try and think clearly on this one, even if you are Latino yourself, having more of them just for the sake of cheap labor doesn’t necessarily make your life better, especially if you’re Latino: you are the most likely to have to live with them 20 to a room as your neighbors.

From Canada I agree with him, to some degree. First, if you don’t agree with the county’s way of life, be it English speaking or Religion, you should have picked a country more suited to your way of life. Or go back to the one you chose to leave don’t expect us to change.

But…I do believe with out a doubt that there are great people who improve our countries when they bring with them a honest hard working values…

Awesome! I completely agree with pretty much all of these. If you don’t have the respect to enter this country legally, why the hell should you be given any respect from this country?

Unfortunately, we as a nation are too “liberal” and too “politically correct” to stand up to this crap at this point in time. This will change soon enough. It absolutely has to if we are to survive as a nation. There is nothing wrong with immigration, done properly and legally. Times change and our policies on immigration (obviously) must change as well. That’s just life.

If you’re not going follow our rules, then you sure as hell don’t have any valid reason to complain when the rest of us (law abiding citizens) get pissed off about your lack of respect. Go ahead - keep breaking our rules - but don’t be offended when I bitch about it. Follow the rules or STFU! You can only have it both ways for so long. This too shall pass…

My wife is from Eastern Europe. We have been working on her citizenship for over two years (you know….going the ‘legal route”). She has learned to speak English in just two years (her children learned English in her native country). She thinks the government should deport the people on the corners begging for “free handout”, and can’t understand how or why they haven’t taken advantage of the AMERICAN DREAM (you kinda gotta agree with that logic!). Legal immigrants are great for American when they assimilate, and hell, almost all of them end up successful taxpaying-voting Americans. It’s the illegals that drive you crazy!

The fricking Democrats keep telling us how bad we have it here in the US (it’s all the fault of Bush and the Evil Republicans!)…tell me….where are the lines of people waiting to leave the US??? You my friends who think we have t so bad here, need to get the cob out of your butt and travel to see how people in other countires live (including all those beloved socialistic countries in Europe…fun to visit but, taxed to death!) This is the greatest nation on earth and if you don’t believe that, send me an e-mail about any place you think is better and I’ll by you a one-way ticket with the stipulation that you cannot return.

Though I do not agree with everything you say, I give you a lot of kudos to say what you feel. I absolutely agree with the ‘giving away America’ and english as this is an english speaking country and when anyone comes here they should learn the language, speak the language out of their home or leave. We should NOT have to press anything for english !!!!! My family is Italian and I never hear press anything for Italian, Polish, German, French or others. Why are they catering to spanish????? I would like to rip the foreign flags off cars when I see them. You love the benefits of America, you live here and breathe the air, SHOW RESPECT.
I hope you continue your crusade, maybe one day someone in congress who isn’t padding their pockets, will see your signs and MAKE CHANGES HERE IN THE GRAND OLD USA !!!!
