“Desperate Housewives” In Spanish Is Approximately Just As Desperate As In English

Univision’s latest series is “Amas de Casa Desesperadas,” which is like the U.S. -shit- hit series “Desperate Housewives,” except lots more stereotypey:

Univision worked with Disney’s Buena Vista TV in producing “Amas,” which follows the original show in its story line and characters while making a few cultural adaptations.

Here it comes:

In the opening episode of “Desperate Houswives,” for instance, the four main housewives gather at the home of their late friend Mary Alice after she committed suicide. This requires some explanation for “Amas.”

“In countries like Mexico and Cuba, people don’t do that,” says Padron. “They would stay at the funeral home. So in Mary Alice’s narration, we have her explain this is a custom in the States.”

God. Yeah, that would have required a giant leap of faith on the part of the show’s viewers. They might have thrown a chancleta at the TV screen in rage and confusion.

Carlos, too, it turns out, would puzzle many Latinos.

“His character is sort of Soprano-esque,” says Padron. “But he also can get very passionate. When he closes a big deal, he cries, which doesn’t reflect the traditional Latino macho man on a horse, with no shirt.”

So traditional Latino macho men are kind of gay, live on the covers of Harlequin novels. Gotcha.

Do they also explain why housewives seem to go to sleep and wake-up with perfect makeup? Or why they’re never in their houses? And some aren’t even wives?

It should really be called TRANSEXUALES DESESPERADAS … these “actresses” all look like trannies … and that’s an insult to the fabulousity of trannies everywhere!

    I’m so happy I can block Univision … :-)

Suicide is Oh, so non-Catholic! therefore, not very Latino. Univision should know better…
