Hugo Chavez Accused Of Stealing Over 500 Tons OF Food, Breaking New Year's Resolution

Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has been accused of stealing over 500 tons of food from Alimentos Polar, a major food distribution and one of the largest private businesses in Venezuela. There goes his diet. Although we guess a man needs a high fiber diet in order to shit all over a nation’s economy:

The director of Alimentos Polar, the nation’s biggest food distributor and one of the largest private employers in Venezuela, has told reporters that troops stopped 27 of the company’s trucks over three days this week and seized more than 500 tons of food.

Fatass.

This comes as Chavez, a tyrant in trouble, threatens to use the military to nationalize farms. Theft, it seems, is his solution to the country’s food shortages, which began in 2003 after his government imposed price controls.
Chavez is nominally president. But he has a dictator’s impolite habit of seizing private property and holds only a vague understanding of math.
Both were evident last Saturday, when Fidel Castro’s socialist ally said he would nationalize the banks that don’t provide enough low-interest loans to farmers. That followed a decree that banks cannot loan money at rates higher than 15% even as inflation runs at 25%.
In addition to stealing food, Chavez has plundered oil companies ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) and Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) for at least $4.5 billion in assets they held in crude-rich Venezuela and shut down a TV network. For years he has seized private land, including large ranches, agribusiness facilities and a grain-processing plant owned by Alimentos Polar. The stated reason is to redistribute the land to poor farmers.

I think we all know the real reason behind all this seizure of land. Disney World Venezuela, motherfuckers.

Didn’t you hear?? Disney World Venezuela is going to have magic food trees that grow tortas and rice. Oh and don’t forget their flying burros instead of flying Dumbos that shit out money!

It is INCREDIBLE how ignorant you are (you too Latin Princess, BTW, how old is too old to be a “princess”? Just wondering…) Did you know that many of these private food distributors refuse to sell to their fellow Venezuelans because they can get more money selling it elsewhere? And that this is leading to food shortages in their own FUCKING country? I don’t know why I expected something different from you Guanabees… you take biased to another whole level that some (me included) would say borders on BRAINWASHING… My fault for expecting better….

This coming from a reactionary teenager who gives opinions on economics and political issues of which she knows absolutely nothing. You seem to visit and comment a whole lot for someone who hates this site so much. And you’re right, stealing food and land to redistribute as you see fit is always the answer. And capitalism and laissez-faire economics are always inherently evil institutions.

For all it’s worth, I don’t think Hugo Chavez is an entirely terrible guy. There is reason to his madness. One sees shortage of food, sees large supply and has an ‘aha’ moment. He is obviously a man that sees the plight of his people and wants to help.

Now. The reason most of the western world, including Guanabee readers (I assume) don’t condone such actions is that this is entirely too socialist. Mr. Chavez is trying to follow a model that has failed to produce positive results and in the end may only hurt his beloved Venezuela.

@ laura: That was thoughtful, well-written, articulate… Why are you commenting here?

Am I being kicked out? =(

@ Rebekah - Since you clearly have your head up your ass, you might want to know that screen names are not meant to be serious and should be taken lightly. Grow up. Better yet, grow a sense of humor.

@laura.s.d: absolutely not being kicked out. that was what we call “humor.”
