Jaime Avyar, a sixteen-year-old Mexican boy living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was used by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) as bait to capture and deport his entire family. The boy was stopped at a makeshift checkpoint and detained for not having documentation on him. A friend driving with him was told Jaime would be released if a family member paid a $500 fine. Later, the sixteen-year-old’s mother, pregnant girlfriend, and younger brother, Cristian, arrived to pick him up:
While Avyar (the boy’s father) waited in the car, his son Cristian, 14-years-old, served as an interpreter in the jailhouse. The official on duty asked them to wait while he placed a phone call, after which seven ICE officials turned up at the jailhouse.
Without offering any information on Jaime or his whereabouts, the agents began to interrogate the family about their legal status, during which they admitted to being in the U.S. illegally. They were immediately detained following their admission.
Like mice in a mouse trap! Only instead of cheese they use the teenage mouse son. And instead of mice they’re human beings. But that would be less cute.
Familia hispana es arrestada, y deportada, bajo engaƱos [Hispano de Tulsa]

That is effed up in so many ways. I live in Arizona, and I just wonder where the compassion and understanding is. I’m so tired of ignorant and uneducated comments being thrown around so freely by racists and bigots. All I can think is yanno under different circumstances, it could be me. I have not, nor do I know anybody that has suffered from immigrant or migrant influx. I’m wondering why all these anti-immigrant protesters are doing down at the furniture store day after day…ain’t they got no jobs? Are their old ladies on welfare? Maybe they should be looking for a job!

At least the Nazis actively encouraged people to snitch out out their families. But here in the good ole US of A, kids are forced into betraying their family without, er…informed consent.

@Gwenny-
I know exactly what you mean… I live in Tempe and the racist pieces of trash are getting way out of control! It makes me sad and frustrated that racism is so accepted here and even encouraged. And the Pruitt’s situation is COMPLETELY ridiculous… I don’t know what else we can do to counter these disgusting anti-Mexican (yes, all Mexicans to them, undocumented or not, are the same in their eyes) sentiments. I don’t want to feel hopeless about this but I do…

Hell yeah, whatever it takes to get them out of here. These little traps have been used by officials before to get people with various warrants, etc. So there is really nothing that new to this idea. I like it. It’s time to put a stop to illegal immigration and start knowing who is in our country.
