Beyond The Barrio: “It’s As If They’re Running In Different Countries.” Well, Yes.

As predicted Friday, the Iowa Primary means jack squat about who will win this year’s Presidential race. Hillary Clinton pulled out the win last night in New Hampshire against Barack Obama. Not to mention, John McCain beat the pants off Mike Huckabee who dropped to third place in New Hampshire. Why? Because this country’s psyche is more politically fractured than a Log Cabin Gay. It’s anybody’s race, people. As long as that anybody is a White, rich guy, of course. See you in Michigan.

It seems to me that these early primaries are losing less and less meaning. It’s just about getting an early win anymore, because different parts of the country have different values and care about different things.

I do pay attention to the Democratic primaries, but they’re not always a good benchmark for me. I live in Texas where you can’t even sneeze without getting your goo on a Republican.

I think that these early primaries have been fascinating. There are so many angles to them and it is hard to know where things will stand a few days much less a few weeks from now.

On the Democratic side, the debate on issues has largely been ignored and the focus is on whether or not the candidates are agents of change. I think all three are strong candidates.

The Republican side, I believe, is a more interesting race because there is so much more uncertainty. Giuliani, McCain, Huckabee and Romney all have legitimate chances of winning. I think that the debate amongst them is really opening a lot of wounds regarding immigration, pro-life and other conservative social issues that are so important to large portions of the party.
