Gossip blogger Perez Hilton is pretty ticked off that Latina magazine decided to feature Jessica Alba as their upcoming cover girl. Writes the rainbow-haired scribe:
PerezHilton.com has learned that Jessica “Don’t Call Me Latina” Alba is going to be on the cover of the new issue of Latina magazine.
Latina magazine!!!!
After everything she’s done and said.
Guess newsstand sales are more important to Latina than putting up inspiring mujeres on their covers.
Such a shame.
He blames the decision on the magazine’s new editor, who isn’t in the habit of drawing coke residue or dribbling semen on the faces of celebrities. Here’s our take: We get that Jessica Alba can be something of a sore subject among Latinos and it seems that a lot of you agree. But, all the same, homegirl is part Mexican and she needs to sell movie tickets to buy trucker hats and lip gloss and Clearasil and solid gold pacifiers for her baby. Jessica moves magazines, gives great interviews and looks amazing in photo spreads. Besides, at the end of the day, shouldn’t she be allowed to self-identify as whatever she pleases, as long as it caters to the right demographic for a particular movie at a certain point in her career?
Jessica even mentions the Cuban-American blogger in an excerpt from her Latina interview:
Alba has faced increasing scrutiny over her latinidad, most notably since 2007, when a series of controversial quotes surfaced in which the actress seemed to question her roots. Reacting to those statements, Cuban-American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has notoriously referred to her as “Jessica ‘Don’t Call Me Alba’ Latina.”
When asked whether the seeming hypocrisy in the industry bothers her, Alba is to the point. “You know, certain people they want to pick on, and certain people they don’t.”
It’s because we’re intimidated by your success. According to our shrink.

mimi valdes is the new editorial director. she kills magazines for a living if you believe the now-defunct bittervibes blog.
i wonder if mimi will show alba the same kind of cover love as she did for keyshia coles when mimi was at vibe.
