Mexican Military Has Taken Over Border City’s Police Force
23 January 2008, 8:18 PM. By Daniel Mauser
ABC South Texas affiliate KRGV is reporting that the Mexican military has taken over police stations in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, a town that neighbors Brownsville, Texas in an apparent attempt to bust cops involved in drug trafficking. Police officers are being detained and Mexican soldiers are trolling the streets of Matamoros with routine police calls going unanswered. Brownsville Sheriff Omar Lucio has warned citizens of his city to cross into Mexico at their own risk. So, it’s pretty much business as usual.
