Chile, that mystical land where hot dogs are served with mayonnaise, is getting its own version of “The Office:”
Chilecorto TV’s Canal 13 has bought the rights to remake the show from the BBC, with the new version launching in May.
Creator Ricky Gervais, who has made a fortune from the successful US version of the show, told The Sun: ‘We stopped making The Office in 2003 but the rest of the world didn’t.
‘I won’t be happy until I have seen an Inuit doing David Brent’s dance.’
You know, we thought we knew what happiness was, but now that we have the image of an Inuit doing this locked away deep in our mind’s eye, we realize we can never know true happiness until we see it for ourselves on Chilean television.
The Office goes to Chile [Chortle]

I wonder what the main characters’ names will be? I’m not familiar with Chilean names, but I’m going to assume there will be a Maria somewhere in the cast. In fact, it would be generally awesome if Pam and Jim (or Dawn and Tim) became Maria and Tony. Granted West Side Story is about Puerto Ricans, I just like the idea of continuing that saga is some modern form.

We Chileans had the original version of The Office, it was called the Jappening Con Ja. It was about the zany happenings at an office. And it was funny. And yes there was a Maria.
over and out.
