Univision To Debut Prime-Time Animated Version Of “El Chavo Del 8.” Because People Don’t Already Make Fun Of Spanish-Language Programming Enough.
15 January 2008, 4:45 PM. By Guanabee Staff
Spanish-language network Univision is set to launch a prime-time animated version of “El Chavo del 8:”
Somewhat like the first U.S. primetime English-language cartoon series, The Flintstones, which was loosely based on popular live-action series The Honeymooners, Univision’s new show is based on the popular live-action Mexican TV show of the same name, which aired in the 1970s.
The show will air Sundays from 7:30 p.m.-8 p.m., but it will launch with a live-action special at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 featuring some of the stars of the original series, the brainchild of Roberto Gomez Bolaños. It is about the trials and tribulations of orphan El Chavo (Bolaños) in a Mexico City neighborhood.
Since we’d rather get smacked in the face with a wet cat than watch a grown man dressed as a little boy skip his way through various hilarious hijinx, we think we’ll sit this one out.

i had the same reaction whilst watching the promo for this the other day. primarily because it was only slightly amusing 30 years ago and now just kind of sad since El Chavo is basically a homeless street urchin.
i’m surprised you haven’t done a snarky review of the new spanish language version of desperate housewives with actress/mummy lucia mendes.
That’s it! not that you care but i’m NEVER reading your shitty little website again and i hope it doesn’t last. How can you consider yourselves whatever it is that you consider yourselves in relation to latino culture and dis el chavo? pinche bola de super pendejos. el chavo is a cultural icon in ALL of latin america. its genius lies in its simplicity and message and if you were paying any fucking attention you would realize what that is. babosos!
Wow is it me or did someone react a little over the top… Calm the fuck down dancecontestwinner!
@la roncha: totes, girl!
you would think that the vagina de guadalupe (or was it the virgen de guadalips?) would have sent the peeps over the top. but el chavo? lay off the gansitos, dancecontestwinner.
..because when I think intelligent latinos taking part in intelligent discussions, I think “pinche bola de super pendejos”

Good grief! Calm down dancecontestwinner. You won a dance contest so you should be happy- not so grumpy and sounding like Rebekah.
I love this, i love El Chavo and Chespirito
@Dancecontestwinner: You probably think Benny Hill is a wonderful representation of British comedy, too.
Wow People hatin’ El Chavo and thinking that Topo Gigio is from latin america (It’s italian BTW and was on Ed Sullivan Waaay before going to Hispanic Shores)….
Assimilation at work, indeed…..
In any case, I do believe that the program block for the show is wrong (primeteime, c’mon..it has always been a kid’s show….. This is not the Simpsons, Univision) If anything should a break from those pointless family discussion shows (Laura in America type of programs)
That being written, altough it’s not the best representation of spanish culture (as some of your readers put it), I, a former marine, challenge anybody to say to my face that they did not laugh to the clean jokes of Mr. Robeto Gomez Bolanoz at least once. If you say you haven’t, either you don nota have a soul, you haven’t seen the show or you are full of feces (or more colloquially—shit).
And people defending the show, calm the F***k down, being a whiny byacth will not help to support your views. Besides if you don’t like what you read, go sowhere else. Let the coconuts have it’s fun
Once again the evil empire Univision rears its ugly head, spoon feeding latino icons with prime time caldo in nostalgic bowls. …america should wake up and see the desperate networks not house wives…
Univision sucks!!!
I like carrusel, so what?
