Ok, I’ll admit that greatdaysa kind of has a point. But you hang in there, Alex. Chicanas can be very vicious. Actually, they may not be chicanas, but they sure bitch like ‘em. Tell Cindy to keep her people in check. And by people, I mean chicanos (not Mexicans or Mexican Americans).

Anyhoo . . . I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I mean, last time I checked, we live in a predominantly White country that was founded by White people. Of course most American movies are going to be produced and directed by White people. And of course they’re going to hire White people to play roles they really shouldn’t be playing. But they have every right to make Latino movies without using real Latino actors. It’s the American way!!!

Also, if you want to be mad about something, maybe you should start with Latino producers/directors who consistently cast the wrong people to play Latino characters or who simply disregard Latin culture entirely. Here are some examples:

1. Guillermo Del Toro, a man I admire greatly, has done a lot for Spanish actors and cinema. But, to my knowledge, he hasn’t done much to bring Mexican culture to wider audiences. It’s almost like he’s a European director. Actually, that’s why I like him. But, if you’re going to bitch about something, he’s a good target.

2. The great Alfonso Cuarón has a penchant for casting Spanish women in his movies. And of course, those girls get tons of media attention. I love Maribel Verdú, but Cuarón could have given that opportunity to a Mexican woman. They don’t all have mustaches, right?

3. Even Andy Garcia is guilty of this. I was sooo looking forward to his film The Lost City. It wasn’t a great film, but it was his passion and I respect that. But why in the hell did he cast Inés Sastre, a Spanish actress, to play his love interest in the movie. I mean, aren’t there Cuban actresses who are looking for work?

I could go on and on . . . also consider Robert Rodriguez hiring Antonio Banderas . . . but I’ll stop here. Bitch away, Chicano/a kids. Bitch away!!!!!

@ greatdaysa: Second -rate British actresses and dead Aussie drug addicts tend to appear less in Latino-centric websites than do second-rate Latina actresses, so we have the luxury of getting to cherry pick from the latters’ careers to our charred heart’s content. While still maintaining enough leeway to create cherry-related puns applicable to second rate British actresses we’d like to sleep with. Them’s the breaks, dollface.

of course you’re going to see this movie. it stars a white person as a lead in a latino story. and even better, it’s going to be directed by another white person.

another example of the strain of ethnic self-hatred evident in guanabee? let’s see…

eva longoria or jennifer lopez or christina aguilera: cherry pick a moment from their career and mock their each and every move endlessly. second rate british actresses or dead aussie drug addicts appear in the news…pucker up and unquestioningly kiss their gringo asses.

am i the only one noticing this tendency?
