In every biographical article ever written about a successful Latino in America, there’s a thing that we here at Guanabee like to call The Abuelita Factor. Sooner or later, someone brings her up. The old woman who helped raise said Latino. The one who taught them how to cook. Or the one who taught them how to eat Ritz crackers for breakfast (???) She’s as stereotypical to our people as rice and beans. Which is why we’re so happy to see her institutionalized for yet another generation in this new line of toys called, Baby Abuelita created by Hilda Jimenez and Carol Fenster of Miami. In the above video a teacher makes white kids kiss the Baby Abuelita dolls just like they will kiss the Pope’s ring when all the Latino Catholics procreate enough to regain Aztlan. Er…uh. That wasn’t supposed to be out loud.
Speaking to the significance of grandparents in Latino families, Baby Abuelita’s Spanish-speaking plush dolls are available in both baby and grandparent characters, the latter of which sing traditional lullabies.
In case you’re missing your abuelita, the entire family of Baby Abuelita dolls and their songs are after the jump!

It’s all fun and games until your mom makes you buy one. My sobrina will be getting abuelita early next month.

These have been around for a while! I first saw them last summer, personally I thought they were awesome and the pollito song made me remember being a kid and having that song sang to me. Stop hating and embrace the love!

“Procreate enough to regain Aztlan.” It’s like someone read my mind.
Are all of us Latinos communicating telepathically like bees? No need to write and tip off whitey - just think your answer, please.

When the stores ran out of them in Miami two years ago, my mother — a Cuban abuelita — tracked one of the owners down and snagged an Abuelo Pancho. I mean, she went to the woman’s house. The abuelitas love them, and Pancho sings a mean “Tengo una vaca lechera.”

The housedress on the abuelita doll is accurate, but shouldn’t she be chain smoking and have dyed red hair? Carrying a racing form from OTB? Or is that just my family?
