Carlos Mencia's Budweiser Ad Is Effective Only In That It Makes Us Wish We Weren't Sober
Hey, you know what’s funny? Us either, as our commenters have managed to point out time and time again. But we have a feeling it isn’t Carlos Mencia’s SuperBowl ad for Budweiser.
Oh man, at work they make fun of my accent, I am so tired of this shit.
i wish i could have been at the ad-industry-wide conference where everyone suddenly decided that ugly racial stereotypes were the hottest new thing for targeting men aged 18-34 since the invention of babies/animals made to talk/dance using the magic of computers.
Why do most Latino comics in this country suck major ass? I don’t get it. Maybe all the research studies are true. The average Latino just isn’t very bright. I mean, let’s be honest here … it takes brains to write good material. Thank goodness for Greg Geraldo. He’s one of a handful of talented Latino comics.
@ guana… to say that carlos menstealia is representative of latino comics in the us is irresponsible to say the least… ignorant describes it a little better. lets just try to stay away from making blanket statements that use that man as a reference point.
greg giraldo is funny, but if you don’t know about paul rodriguez, cheech marin, and george lopez, then the research studies are definitely true of you.
i’d also add maria costa to that list… she definitely represents.
@JAV!ER: Actually, I never said that Carlos Mencia is representative of Latino comics in the US (please read my comment carefully). You just assumed that. In fact, I don’t think he represents the average Latino comic. I made a general statement about Latino comics; I asked, “Why do most Latino comics in this country suck major ass?” I’m sorry, but I hate ethnic comedy. And most Latino comics write and perform material that falls under the category of ethnic humor, and most of it sucks major ass. I’ll give Paul Rodriguez credit for being better than most. But he still relies on tired stereotypes. So, if you find Larry the Cable Guy, Cheech Marin, George Lopez, and other (BAD) ethnic comedians funny, well, um, good for you. I personally think most of them suck. There are exceptions (e.g., Dave Chappelle), but they are a rare breed.

I don’t know who Carlos “Ned” Mencia stole this material from, but it’s not funny. I guess with the writer’s strike, there’s not much to steal.
