Covering The Coverage: Chicago Tribune Discovers Hot New Doll Trend From 1998
28 February 2008, 12:15 PM. By Carlos Posas
Remember Homies? Those cholo figurines you collected in junior high? Well, once again, the Chicago Tribune, that bastion of trendsetting has picked up on what all the kids are doing. Just like, ten years later:
These controversial characters, called Homies, are inch-long plastic dolls depicting life in the barrio and can be purchased for as little as 50 cents in the gumball machines of Latino grocery stores or off the shelves of kitschy boutiques.
Wow. What’s a gumball machine?

Nice job, Chicago Tribune. Since you’re the first to report such current events, there’s a controversial Oreo Fun Barbie from 1997 you might want to investigate.
Obviously this reporter doesn’t like in Pilsen or La Villita!
I haven’t seen Homies in years. I didn’t even know they still made them, lol
