The Huffington Post asks whether beauty salons for young girls are a good idea. To which we reply “Little girls, in general, are a bad idea.” But what about when salons can teach girls about other cultures? Cultures like “Hialeah:”

So are these salons a bad thing? I think it depends on how the notion of beautifying is communicated and parents’ individual values when it comes to younger girls, make-up, nail polish, etc. Some parents pierce their kid’s ears when they’re babies or are perfectly fine with 7-year-olds painting their nails and playing “grown up.”

And, oh, it gets better, babies:

The reporter mentioned that when she visited the salon, there were girls from all different ethnicities there — Latina girls getting made up for a Quinceanera. Girls seeing how girls from different cultures define beauty could be interesting.

Oh God, no. If there is anything in Latino culture that should be kept under wraps from non-Latinos, it’s QuinceaƱeras. We cringe every time an episode of “My Sweet 16″ shows some Catholic school girl from Miami throwing a shit fit over getting the wrong luxury SUV from her pill-popping mom. We cringe… because we went to school with that girl, dozens of times over. Can we just all agree to keep quinces a secret from Anglos?

Of course little fresas need their ears pierced as infants. They need to look good for their baptism pictures.

I love how right next to the picture of Zac Efron, there’s a google ad for “Photos of Cute Girls - Browse photos of Gay Latino near you. Chat, IM and Date free!”

    How appropriate.
