Fidel Castro Deathwatch: El Comandante Steps Down Via Internet. So Probably No One In Cuba Knows.

Fidel Castro sent a letter to El Granma published on the internet this morning in which he says:

I neither will aspire to nor will I accept, the position of president of the council of state and commander-in-chief.

After almost 50 years of -rule- civil servitude, Fidel will be handing the reigns over to his brother Raul. Uh, er, didn’t this already happen in 2006? As for how this “official” resignation is any different, Castro did give this hint:

My only desire is to fight as a soldier for my ideas.

We look forward to seeing him run through those jungles in fatigues spouting Karl Marx until he wheezes into a pile of poison ivy. ¡Viva la revolucion!
