An Texas attorney offended some Hispanic voters in his area by saying that guessing their number would be like guessing “beans in a jar.” A jar of tequila! And late child support payments!
Some Hispanics, noting that “beaner” is a derogatory term for people of Mexican descent, said lawyer C. Robert Heath should have been more sensitive.
“It’s something that is offensive,” plaintiffs’ attorney Rolando Rios said.
Mr. Heath said he wasn’t familiar with the slur and hadn’t realized his choice of words might cause offense.
“It was just an analogy, and obviously it was ill chosen because it was offensive to some persons,” Mr. Heath said. “That was entirely unintentional, and I apologize for it.”
Don’t worry, Mr. Heath. Now that you’ve apologized, everything is a-ok and cleaned right up, spic-and-span.
Lawyer says he didn’t mean to offend Hispanics with bean comment [The Dallas Morning News]

This totally reminds me of Alvy Singer’s paranoid rant in Annie Hall about everyone in NY being anti-Semitic because the executives at NBC asked him, Jew eat yet?

It’s offensive that people are so ignorant not to recognize this is a pretty common analogy. Liberal extremists need to calm the fuck down.

a more appropriate analogy would have been, ‘like counting lice on some 2nd grade beaner’s head’.
