Miami Underwhelmed By Castro's Resignation

littlehavana.2.19.08.jpeg

As noted earlier, no one’s really sure what it means that Fidel Castro officially resigned from the office of president of Cuba this morning. It’s a little underwhelming because he’s been out of commission for the most part since July of 2006 when he handed over the reigns to his brother Raul. Hence the “What have you done for me lately?” reaction from Miami’s little Havana this morning:

“It’s very good that Fidel resigns. But if Fidel dies, it’s better,” said Juan Acosta, a Cuban who left the Caribbean island in 1980.

Ouch. That kind of insensitivity could get you a job here.
