Gossip blogger Perez Hilton is set to become even more rich than you, thanks to cementing his role as a tastemaker in the realm of pop music. And that taste? Probs deep fried Oreos. With gravy:
Mr. Lavandeira has been negotiating a deal that would provide him with his own imprint at Warner Brothers Records, a division of the music giant Warner Music Group, he said. This was confirmed by several other people associated with the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity because no deal has been made. The talks are preliminary, and an agreement is not certain, but Mr. Lavandeira could receive $100,000 a year as an advance against 50 percent of any profits generated by artists he discovers and releases through Warner Brothers, these people said.
Not bad for a little boy from Belen Jesuit. And, haha, yeah. You read right. One hundred. Thousand. Dollars. That buys a lot of Manic Panic and hoodies with little duckies on them.

I’m embarassed to say, but P*r*z was posting about Amy Winehouse way before she made it big in the states, and has also given some gossipy internet press to other up and coming artists pretty frequently. I’ve always assumed that he was paid to write about these people, who usually start as relative unknowns here in the US…Mika is another one.

A little potential conflict of interest never gets in the way of a dying record industry looking for bait, I mean, synergy, to make a dollar off of recordings that are increasingly out of their hands.
That $100G annual advance? Half of that may just get blown on getting the lawyer to sniff at the contract to see if it’s coke-worthy. If dude doesn’t find a way to pay it back in full through the artists he promotes (on his blog? it already sounds like a payola-style loan without saying it…) he may be screwed. But what’s a $100G annual loan when it can get you a new laptop?
I guess he won’t be blogging as much since he might have to break bands and run his imprint. Good luck, P*r*z. You might want to start scribbling “Pwned” on a picture of you hugging Bugs Bunny and get it ready to post on yr. page as a way of saying chow to the cute site. Or maybe he has ghostwriters. Or people working for him. On loans and internet ad revenue.
