Someone Is Responsible For Javier Bardem’s No Country For Old Men Haircut, And That Someone Is Not Suri Cruise

Oscar-winning hairstylist Paul LeBlanc is responsible for the haircut that propelled No Country For Old Men star Javier Bardem into “Best Supporting Actor” status:

“It’s a very big day,” LeBlanc said from his studio Monday. “It reminds me of when I won in 1985 for ‘Amadeus’.” The stylist shared an Oscar for best makeup for his work on director Milos Forman’s film about Mozart, which won eight awards, including best picture.

LeBlanc, who has been kept busy with the New Brunswick hair salon he opened a year ago, created the hairstyle for Bardem’s character in the blood-soaked “No Country For Old Men,” drawing on the mop tops of the British warriors in the medieval Crusades as well as the haircuts of the 1960s for inspiration.

Spanish actor Bardem took home the best supporting actor Oscar Sunday night for his portayal of icy killer Anton Chigurh in the Coen brothers’ “No Country For Old Men,” which won three other awards for best picture, director and adapted screenplay.

His oddball haircut for the film has been roundly mocked by comedians. Oscar telecast host Jon Stewart quipped that Bardem’s haircut in the film combined, “Hannibal Lecter’s murderousness with (ice skating champ) Dorothy Hamill’s wedge-cut.”

Sadly, we can’t also hold LeBlanc responsible for the eerily similar haircut we rocked as a shy, portly six-year-old. That’s all on you, Mom. Friend-o.
