This Valentine’s Day, New York City Latinos Will Be Less Disease-Spready Thanks To Free Condoms

New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene [Ed. note: Keepin' our minds clean?] is giving out free condoms with fun slogans in English, Spanish and Too Drunk To Remember:
The English-language condom wrappers bear the slogan “Get some,” while the Spanish-language version has the word “Póntelo” — which translates as “Put it on.”
Hmm. So… Pleasure. As opposed to… Protection? What you saying about Latino juices, NYC? Why the discrepancy between the English and Spanish advertisements?

Yeah! That’s what we want to know:
“We have to use the words in the way they’re used in the communities we’re trying to reach,” Dr. Sweeney said, explaining that “Get some” did not readily translate into an easy-to-remember Spanish idiom. “We have to use the vernacular of the people we’re trying to reach.”
We guess “cojelo” would be too naughty. But surely our lovely and hopefully double-jointed readers can come up with some better slogans…

Well, “cojelo” is more of a regional slang word, not all Latinos know what “cojer” is supposed to mean, definitely not in New York, not in Dominican and Puerto Rican Spanish…And PS, those NYC free comdons are shit. They were too small for my Dominican bf, they’re way too narrow…

Amen! (and lucky you to brag…). They need to make those NYC condoms in extra large if they want to reach folks uptown and stop worrying about the translation. We know what their for.
