Alexa Vega Stars In Odd Girl Out, A Made-For-TV Movie Oddly Not About Bulimia Or Domestic Abuse

Alex Vega, the little ragamuffin from the Spy Kids movies, stars in a new Lifetime made-for-tv movie called Odd Girl Out. The movie follows young Vanessa Snyder as the finds herself dumped by her clique of popular friends and forced to navigate the tumultuous ocean of adolescent social groups on her own. Kind of like Mean Girls, but not funny and Lindsay Lohan isn’t off giving the Key Grip an HJ behind craft services.

Funnily enough the role Vanessa’s mom, Barbara Snyder, is played by fellow Latina actress Lisa Vidal, of “ER” and “Third Watch.” Of course, it’s often hard to tell background from a last name alone, but we kind of have to wonder why two Latinas, known mostly for playing recognizable Latina characters, were cast as a mother and daughter who don’t seem to be Hispanic. We’d watch and find out, but we’d miss “Flavor of Love 3.” Has anyone who’s seen the movie know what’s up with that?

I met her a few years ago. She’s not a bad person at all. Really nice and down to earth.

I wondered the same thing when the movie first aired a couple years back. My assumption was that it was obvious they were Hispanic and that was normal and nothing to make an issue of. Like, how no one points out when it’s white people playing white people.

Maybe I was just being a little too optimistic or something…
