And Just How Do You Celebrate Easter, Little Guanabunnies?
20 March 2008, 11:30 AM. By Daniel Mauser
The BBC’s website has a nice little photo series that includes some images of Holy Thursday and other holiday celebrations around the world. In India, people are gearing up to celebrate Holi this Saturday, a day welcoming the coming of Spring that involves throwing colored powder and water on all your friends and neighbors and probably annoying the living hell out of whoever is going to end up doing laundry.
And, in rememberance of Holy Thursday, people in the Philippines are bloodying up Jesus while over in Brazil, truly terrifying figures in pointed hoods join a solemn procession to emulate the Praetorian guard and to scare the shit out of small children and bloggers.
But what we’d like to know is, how are you planning to celebrate this week? Is there an Easter egg hunt in your immediate future? Do you look forward to your madrina buying you a special Easter present? Will you wear a stupid hat and eat brunch with people you don’t necessarily like? Or will you veg out in front of the TV in your sweatpants with a three-day-old carton of lo mein? Do share.

sis is coming into town from college (our whole fam is in CA) and we’re decorating eggs, going to church, then going to lunch.
we usually decorate eggs the day before..and then do a easter egg hunt late morning for the kids and then we’ll probs have carne asada. yum!
surprisingly we dont go to church but only cuz everyone who doesn’t go to church year round goes to church on easter. really annoying.
and it’s also my nieces 1st birthday on sunday, my sis is having a easter themed party for her on saturday.
Mai ghey is having his usual “Jeebus was a rolling stone” party in Brooklyn. Its sad for me since I keep telling him that its kinda masochistic of him since the Jeebus don’t like the gheys. I just show up for the Enchiladas de Judas and get schnockered with the usual bunch of lowlifes, maybe we will nuke some Peeps. Good times.
cascarones
@ La Virgen: I’m with you. It’s all about those cascarones. And finding the ones with flour in them before anyone else.
I spent 9 Easters in Guyana, where I was raised and in 1 Easter in India where my grampa was from. I got pelted with dye during paghwah, thats the Guyanese version of Holy, after flying kites and eating cross buns. Very Christian Hinduey.I got bumrushed with dye during Holy… while fighting dysentery in Calcutta. We don’t talk about our Portuguese side of the family and their steez…
oh.. i’m doing nuthin….maye eat a cross bun and paint with my phlegm…
How do I celebrate Easter? Well, I go to the nearest elementary school and tell all the little children I can find that the resurrection of Jesus is a lie. But, wait, I try to lessen the pain by assuring them that the easter bunny is alive and well at my house, in a cage–slowly dying of some incurable disease that makes him aggressive and flatulent. Then I give them easter candies and send them back to class. I love Easter. And I love the children, too.
